A New Fantasy Football Strategy

By Keith Von Riggard

My fantasy football draft strategy was different this year than in years past, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Have a read about it here and let me know what you think.

Usually, I do a lot of research and preparing. More so than you can imagine. I think it was almost overwhelming to the point where it hurt me.

As a result, I decided this season to only casually research the options. Enough to know who's injured and some rookie sleepers and what not, but not like in years past. I think this strategy of over-analyzing backfired for sure.

Then, I veered from the usual preference of mine to draft at least one running back with one of my first two picks. I always typically do this, but opted not to this season. The running backs just aren't as important as they used to be, and I'm not the only one making this claim.

It seems like each of the last few seasons, my running backs have let me down so I chose to go with a growing trend that shows that wide receivers are the best bets during the first two rounds. However, I decided to take a QB with one of the two picks.

The plan would be to have an elite quarterback, another second-tier guy, and two elite wide receivers. Only then would I draft a running back. Check out my team and share your thoughts.

With the fifth pick in the first round, I went with Tom Brady, and then I went with Andre Johnson with my second pick. I chose Greg Jennings in the third round, and then Matt Schaub in the fourth.

Then it was time for the running backs. And I can't say I'm disappointed. Ronnie Brown and Pierre Thomas were both still available with my next two picks, and both of these guys have top 10 potential. I think my strategy will pay off. - 16887
