Scotland Camper Hire

By Jason Williams

Hiring a motorhome for travel around Scotland is a popular option for travelers to the northern regions of the UK. It could be the coastal scenery, the mountains and lakes or even the friendly people you meet on the way. Here are some suggested camper van routes that you may enjoy.

Part of camper van travel excitement is that from Scotland you can easily get to the Hebrides, islands that provide great campsites. From Glasgow you can reach one of the main Hebridean islands through Oban. A 3 hour journey from Glasgow is all it takes to reach Oban. Plenty of time to acquaint yourself with the motorhome. One of the highlights in this region is Loch Lomand, along with a choice of overnight camp sites. Taking time to breath in the fresh air and relax is the key to enjoying the adventure.

Mull is the second largest Hebridean island and a marvelous motorhomers destination. An abundance of wildlife can be found here. Home to the famous Golden Eagles, you may also see otters, Minke whales and dolphins around the islands. The island is a great place to also get out of the motorhome and take a walk among the peace and quiet of the hills and near deserted bays.

Moving onwards, take the Mallaig road and stop off at your leisure. Arisaig is where you will find most of the camp sites and you could spend a few days here to really see all that is available. Surrounded by stunning scenery, this area is a must see for all who visit the Hebridean islands.

As we near the end of the tour, take in one last island to complete this tour of the Hebrides. Board the ferry and head on over to Skye, another island full of history. There is the famous Tallisker distillery open for visitors on the island and a large number of sights related to the Gaelic history of the place. After you have seen all that Skye has to offer, take the bridge back to the tour starting point of Glasgow.

The journey back to Glasgow is very scenic and one that you will remember for a long time. High mountains and yes, walls are among the impressive sights you'll see on the way back. A definite stop for all independent camper van travelers on the way towards Loch Lomond park for the final time. For first time camper van hirers, this is an excellent route to introduce you into the freedom lifestyle and one that will stick in the memory for a long time to come. - 16887
