Learn How To Play The 12 Bar Blues On Guitar

By Michel Pale

It?s hard to describe how to play the 12 Bar blues on the guitar when you don?t have one in front of you. It?s also hard to play it if you have never done it before and you are interested in playing the 12 bar blues . What isn?t hard is writing about it so that you can get fired up enough to want to play it, or, if you play , and have lost your way, to re-kindle that passion so that you can learn the proper way.

Many who hear some music that they love and want to play it, often see themselves up on stage having the time of their lives with mobs of screaming fans who just can?t get enough. Well, learning should be that way too if you approach it properly.

The first thing you need to know if you are bitten by the bug is to know how to go about learning properly, and that means, wanting to really learn. If you go about it recklessly, then you won?t go far before you lose interest, and you may never touch the guitar again, and that would be a shame because all you really needed was to learn how to learn.

Start by finding a good instructor. You can usually find one by seeing where all the real musicians go. If you begin your instruction there, then you will be introduced to the world of 12 bar blues in the right way, by taking it slow at first so that you get the chords and the progression right, and then, getting it smooth. Never worry about speed, which will come once it?s fluid enough.

Once you have the basics then you can get into the theory, which is all about structure and form, and that has to with tonic chords, dominant chords, sub dominant, etc., then the 12 bar blues progression that is blended in with it. Remember, this all takes time, but if you take the time, you will get out of it what you have put into it.

There are three main chords that you need to know, and they are A7, E7, and B7, and from there, once you?ve got those down, you can move on to different keys, fifth notes, and how it all combines into that sound you first fell in love with, and wanted so much to learn. Once you do get proficient, there is a tendency to show off how technically good you are by trying to cram all you know into everything you play, and that is where the style gained through confidence is learned, and that is what makes you stand out.

So keep in mind that you must be technically proficient enough so that you can create an emotional impact, and when you do that, there will be someone else out there who will want to play the 12 bar blues guitar just like you! - 16887

How to Travel with Children to Tropical Islands

By Matthew Kepnes

Going on holiday can be a great activity but when you go with kids, you need to plan more and be more watchful. It can be a bit more stressful. Islands are a great place to take children because there isn't as much trouble that they can get into and kids love playing in the sand and going to the beach. However, you still need to practice good safety tips while traveling with your kids.

You and your children can obviously jump start your day by simply lounging on the beach, sun bathing, with kids swimming in the waters or digging in the sand building castles. But if your children are like most other kids, they will want to run around. There are plenty of things you can do with them. However, it is good to spend a lot of time on the beach the first few days as it will give them time to use their energy, have fun, and get to relax.

Kids might eventually get bored of the beach so you will have to find some other things to do. Luckily, there are always plenty of things to do on tropical islands. You can have your kids going jungle trekking. They can explore great jungles, see lots of animals, and play in rivers and in waterfalls. Kids usually find this fascinating. Make sure to bring a lot of food and drinks for them as kids tend to get hungry quickly when doing lots of activities. These activities usually take up a whole day and are a great way to keep your kids busy as well as tire them out so they get a good sleep at night.

If land doesn't suit your children, try the sea. You can take your kids on a sailing trip to spot dolphins or on a glass bottom tour boat to see the ocean life. If your kids like to get into the water more, they can go snorkeling or scuba diving. This will allow them to get up close and personal with the fish. Kids as young as 8 are allowed to dive up to 20 feet. There are a lot of great fish to see in the ocean and taking your children to see them will keep them happy and excited.

However, some times kids just want to sit around and do nothing. They don't want to always go on holidays or do activities. When this happens, make sure you bring a lot of games and movies for them to play in the hotel room. Sometimes you just have to give them a day off from being on holiday and let them do what they want. All a kid sometimes wants to do is watch a movie and you should plan on that. If you force them to do your holiday they will get angry and throw a temper tantrum. No one wants to have a crying kid with them!

A good balance between both indoor and outdoor sports will get your little ones to prize and enjoy their tropical island holiday while keeping them busy and keeping you sane. Going on vacation with your children doesn't have to be a stressful adventure. There are plenty of things you can do to keep your children engaged on an island besides just going to the beach. - 16887

Dont Buy SEO Elite

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is what every webmaster wants. SEO can give your site long term free targeted traffic from the search engines. If your website gets ranked for a high traffic competitive keyword by the search engines, you have hit a goldmine. But SEO is not easy. It may take months of back breaking work for you before you succeed.

First lets see what SEO is in nutshell. SEO means that you optimize your site for search engines so that they rank it well for the keyword that you are aiming. You need to do two things for SEO: On Page and Off Page Optimization. On page Optimization requires you to include html tags: title, description, keyword as well as H1/H2 headers and not more than 4% keyword density in the content for telling the search engine the keyword that you want to be ranked.

On page optimization is only for telling the search engines the keyword that you want to be ranked. But its your site link popularity that is given more importance by the search engines. This is known as Off Page Optimization and requires you to get thousands of quality backlinks from authority sites before the search engines start taking your site seriously.

Lets be clear; this requires lot of work. Its not easy especially link building. There are SEO companies that can do this work for you on payment of a few thousand dollars. Why pay this much, when you can do it for free. And it is fun too!

Many people want to take short cut to SEO. They download Black Hat SEO eBooks thinking that these black hat techniques may give them success. Nothing is further from the truth. Search engines dont like black hat techniques.

Black Hat SEO short cut is not good. It may work for sometime but the search engines will find it and ban your site. Other people buy SEO software. There are many available online. SEO Elite is one such software.

SEO Elite will tell you the number of backlinks that your site is getting. You will have to get the backlinks yourself. It will also tell you whether your site is getting ranked for a particular keyword or not.

Why you want to pay a few hundred dollars to know these things when Google provides you this information for free. Google is your friend. Learn to do what Google wants you to do and see how Google will start loving you.

Open a Google Account and register your website at Google Webmaster Tools. Submit a sitemap of your site. Within days Google will index your site. When you add new pages, Googlebot will get notified and index that page in a few hours.

There is link Search Queries in the Google Webmaster Tools that will tell you the keywords for which your site was ranked in the last week and last month.

Use: link:http://www.yourdomain.com on the Google Webmaster Tools page to find the backlinks that Google knows your site is getting. If Google is not counting a backlink, it simply means Google does not know about it and that link has no value for Google.

Isnt this method free and better than spending hundreds of dollars on SEO Software? If you have a Google Adwords account than you can also open a Google Analytics account for your site free.

Google Analytics gives you everything. The number of visitors, their countries, time spent on the site, referral path, bounce rate, pageviews; keywords that give you search engine traffic, direct traffic and referral sites that are giving traffic to your site. - 16887

By Paul J Eastwood

A belly dancing costume that comes with all the accessories included can be termed belly dancing wear. What you will find with belly dancing wear is the skirt, the bra and the belt. You might even find that a headpiece and jewelry is also included with your costume.

Belly Dancing Accessories

The hip scarf is a popular accessory among belly dancers. It is added to the skirt and follows the hip motions of the dancer. You can add sequins to your bra and skirt if you want a little flash. Arm cuffs and headpieces are other common accessories. Don't forget to add some jewelry to your costume. The selection of the right jewelry can really set off your costume.

Belly Dancing Props

The use of veils made of silk and chiffon can be added to your dance routine as props. Belly dancers will often make use of a feather boa for an extra dramatic effect. Coins sewn onto your bra will make a nice tinkling sound as you dance and provide a shimmering look under lights.

Mixing it Up

Get some good pieces to change your belly dancing costume every once in a while. Experiment with headpieces and jewelry to see how it affects your performance. Don't be afraid to try out a new bra and skirt to see if the movement of the new item will add to or enhance your dance routine. Make sure you check with your venue to be sure you are adhering to their rules for belly dancing wear.

The items you select should be comfortable enough to dance in. You should be able to make all of your movements easily without the costume becoming an encumbrance. Make sure you shop around for great deals on your costume.

It is always possible to buy a complete costume and add to it as your routine and performance changes. You will have many ideas about the things you would like to see on your costume and should feel free to add them as you wish. Look for some authenticity when you are shopping for accessories for your costume. - 16887

Center for Bowling at Cordova Lanes

By Ray P. Pope

We sell fun for a living, to help you and your family keep your minds out of the gutter!

Cordova Lanes Bowling Center is your one-stop family entertainment center. Along with bowling, we offer billiards, darts, horseshoes, and video games. Shooters Sports bar, Bowlers Edge Pro Shop and a world-famous snack bar round out all the options available. We are committed to making your family outing or reunion, league night, fundraising event, or business party as special as possible.

If you ever wonder how the bowlers get Spares and Strikes, then join the club! I consider it annoying when I am playing next to a bowler that is getting Strikes and picking up Spares here and there and I am doing good to just keeping it on the lane.

If you just want a night out with the family, don't get competitive, don't let low scores or a gutter ball get you down, after all you are there for FUN with the family! So just get your ball, hit the approach, stand correctly, and throw it down the lane. Then enjoy some french fries or take a sip of your beer, and let the kids play. You will surely have a blast!

It won't take long until your kids will ask you to take them bowling all the time and ask for their own equipment(bag, shoes, ball). And like me they have made some life long friends from the bowling leagues they have been on.

Bowling fun can be increased when you have learned the basics. The five-step delivery is on of these basics. Most of the cities throughout the United States and the whole world have bowling alleys close to you, which means there's need to drive for hours or fly off on vacation in order to play this recreational sport. And because most bowling centers are open long hours every single day, bowlers can enjoy anytime they want to.

It is a Weatherproof Sport, except for the occasional exhibition game played by the pros, bowling is mostly done indoors. Though many may not be willing to drive to the bowling center in bad weather or snow, It still can't stop bowlers once they get in the nice, warm center.

What can be better than getting a group of friends together over good food and good times? Bowling is a perfect time to bond with friends, enjoy a few laughs and a little exercise. On weekends, most centers offer special nights which means Cosmic Bowling also known as "glow in the dark" bowling. This is when players enjoy loud music and glowing bowling balls.

For someone who is looking for something the whole family can enjoy together, think bowling. Bowling centers gives kids a chance to burn off energy while learning a healthy activity and mingle with others. For those who are digging for new fun, many centers offer treats for youngsters. Parents can drop of their kids and have them stay and play bowling overnight and pick them up the following day.

Anyone can bowl unlike other sports that require exceptional skills or an entire team to get things rolling, bowling can be done alone even without training. Most people can play bowling pretty well even without proper training.

Most importantly, this sport does not discriminate. Bowlers can either be male or female, young or old, in good shape or not. In fact, many bowling centers organize leagues specifically designed for those with disabilities where they come together and have a good time.

No need to invest for equipments as well. Bowling doesn't require financial commitment. League bowlers pay a weekly fee and usually buy their own bowling ball and shoes, however, the occasional bowler only needs to get to the bowling center in comfortable attire and pay the cost, bowling balls are free to use.

Bowling gives you good physical exercise unlike the major team sports like football, baseball and basketball where there is a high probability of getting hurt. The occasional bowler has less risk of getting injured. Bowlers have been known to twist a wrist or hurt their back due to some wrong movement, but, bowling is not a contact sport.

What matters most is that bowling is cost effective. The price of bowling has increased over the years but it is still an affordable option. A lot of centers, like Cordova Lanes Bowling Center, 2111, Bayou Blvd., Pensacola, Florida, 32504 (phone:850.477.2300) offer discounts to youth and seniors or on special days. They offer free, printable, discount coupons(called iQpons) on eHubPensacola.com in Pensacola, Florida which makes it better for your bowling experience. What goes better than getting cheap prices right? And while on eHubPensacola, check out Cordova Lanes' thrift certificates (gift certificates) that are on sale at a half off discount. So whenever the gang is wanting something fun to do together make sure to suggest bowling. And have a great time!

Cordova Lanes is open 8am until 3am on Friday and Saturday, and 8am until midnight the rest of the week. - 16887

Wrestling Arm Moves

By Rhys Jones

There are many arm moves in wrestling, the most well-known of which are the arm drags, arm swings, arm breakers and over the shoulder arm drags. Another wrestling arm manoeuvre is the arm bar take down. The arm bar works by forcing the opponent's arm downwards.

The challenger feels the strain about the shoulder area and the assailant will grip the arms extending the arms length wise. The shoulder is eventually dropped to the mat. This is a pin in most instances unless the wrestler can wriggle his/her way out of the hold.

The arm breaker manoeuvres include the slamming of the arms, typically on an area of the opponent's body where it will hurt. Typically, the pin ends with the scissors hold, where the wrestler's legs are crossed over the challenger's body, holding his/her shoulders down to the mat.

The various moves look painful in the ring, but the fact is that the moves are fakes, i.e. a showy display to grab attention. The actors rehearse the scenes long before they step into the ring and are trained to send 'signs' to end the bout when they want to.

The wrestlingmoves seem real on television, because the cameras and other distractions, including models, divert the attention of the audience. Wrestling is really quite similar to how magicians work. Magicians rehearse their stage act before they go on the stage. There is always a trick or an explanation, yet the magician does his act so smoothly and the audience is so distracted, that the magician makes people believe that he or she is doing the thing for real.

The arm drags include using brute force, getting the opponent in a hook move, the assailant flips the challenger to the mats. Most of the moves are devised by one or the other wrestler and so it may become a popular move. Some of the older moves include the Gallatin and the Banana Split

The 'over the shoulder' move should be called the body slam since the opponent will throw the challenger over his shoulder, slamming him/her onto the mat. At one time, this wrestling move was probably a slammer, but today it is the shoulder-arm throw move.

The 'wringer; is another of the arm moves in wrestling which is sometimes known as the 'spin wrist lock hold'. This manoeuvre is often followed up with the Irish Thrash moves, mallet locks or gouges.

A few other arm moves include the arm stretches, arm breakers, arm wringer, arm locks, arm bar and arm scissors. While the arm moves are very well-known in the ring, there are many moves you may see today that you would never have seen when wrestling first began in ancient days. The Amityville Horror is one of wrestling's more modern moves. Although, I haven't worked out what this move is all about, we are about to look at it together.

Right now, from what I see the Amityville Horror is just a ploy to lead people into renting or buying the movie. As for the moves, I did see it listed in the list of wrestling moves; however, as for now no information is available to learn what this move entails. The moves are basically brands from the wrestlers, therefore what I'm assuming is that the wrestler felt he had acted out one of the most horrific moves in wrestling, so he named it the Amityville.

Why is it that some moves get roaring applause? Well, it can start when a wrestler in the ring brings in a new manoeuvre and it becomes his signature, popular final move in his bouts. - 16887

Very Simple SEO Tricks

By Hass67

Search engine optimization (SEO) is usually portrayed as technical and complex by most internet marketing gurus. There are many very simple SEO tricks that can help you get good ranking for a blog post.

Google gets a lot of daily searches and if that keyword has around 50+ searches daily that means traffic to your blog as long as your post has the ranking. You can get a lot of traffic to your blog if you use these tricks to rank a number of blog posts.

But before these trick starts working, you need to have at least 50 posts on your blog. Once your blog post reach more than 50, Google will start considering you a serious blogger.

Google loves blogs. Blogs means fresh content. Google usually indexing a blog post much faster than a webpage! In my case, my blog gets indexed in five minutes after I publish my post.

Whenever you post on a blog, choose a keyword that you want to get your blog post ranked. The title of the blog post should contain that keyword

The first sentence of the post should contain that keyword. Use that keyword in the post a number of times. But the keyword density should not be more than 4% in the content.

You should include the keyword in the URL of that post like this; http://www.Yourdomain.com/keyword. You can do this both on Blogger and Wordpress.

But in Blogger, once you have published the post, you cannot change the URL of the post. Publish the post using only the keyword in the title. Later on you can edit and change the title again if you want. You can change the title but it should still contain the keyword.

This way you are telling Google; hey this is the keyword for this post. I have used these simple tricks for getting top ranking for keywords having 100,000 to 1000,000 competing webpages. - 16887

Many Types Of Scooter Parts

By Alex M. Mihajlov

Do you have an older scooter or a newer model? Are older scooter parts hard to replace? Whether you have an older scooter versus a newer one, eventually some of the scooter parts will have to be changed. Changing these parts should be done regularly in order to keep your scooter maintained and in full working order.

If you have an older model for instance, you can replace the motor with a newer one with more horsepower, this will improve your speed immensely when encountering hills, as this will improve the torque.Belts will also need to be changed, and you can also replace this with a chain. Replacing the belt with a chain seems like a very good idea, economically as belts tend to burn out often causing them to be replaced.

Some people who have had the older scooter models for several years tend to update the motor with a stronger horsepower as a way to improve the performance of the vehicle. Bolts, bulbs and wheels also need to be replaced as they were down and out over a period of time. Make sure to check that all of these parts in perfect working order with help keep your scooter at its optimum performance.

Batteries and other replacement parts can be found at your local garage or parts supply store. If they don't have the part in stock, they can order it in for you or direct you as to where you will be able to get them. Keeping these at full performance levels will ensure that you have full power for your scooter at all times. Batteries can also be upgraded to ones of a higher strength in order to provide you with more speed to get you to where you want to go faster.

Road and weather conditions also play a role in how you scooter functions. Traveling constantly on broken, uneven roads will cause lots of wear and tear on your scooters wheels so you will have to get them replaced over time. Your scooter will last for a long time providing you regularly maintain it and have some of your scooter parts replaced when needed. - 16887

Golfing for Novices: Part Three

By Owen Jones

The long game refers to your drives (shots off the tee) and fairway shots; everything short of the shots you make to get onto the green.

For the reason that each hole has a different difficulty level, a different par and different obstructions, saying that you should use your driver on every tee every time would be totally wrong.

But don't worry about it. This is something that you will have to learn with experience as you learn the various types shot you need to make, which will vary according to the club, the placement of the ball and your own personal style of swing.

Without putting too fine a point on it, the lower the number of the club, the longer and lower your ball will travel through the air. So, for example, a 4-iron will make the ball travel on a long and low trajectory and that will most make it roll when it hits the ground, whereas a 9-iron will impart much more loft to the ball and ensuring that it will go less distance both in the air and over the ground.

Don't the professionals on the television make it look easy? They whack the ball long and straight time after time after time and never slice the ball sending it a sickly eight or nine feet or miss the ball altogether.

Driving is very important to the game, and many hours spent at the driving range will help improve your distance. Experiment with the same club to see what works for you if you move the ball forward or backward in your stance. Take a lesson, if possible, and learn the proper swing from the beginning.

You must master the long game as it will help you get to the green in much fewer strokes, which will keep your score and frustration levels down. Don't forget that it takes a long time to be consistently consistent and always remember: you're supposed to be enjoying yourself! - 16887

Why Buying Radio Controlled Cars Is Not That Easy

By Bernard Peterson-Smith

The concept of buying radio controlled cars either in a shop or online seems straight forward but I found the whole process initially overwhelming.

Like nearly every product, there now seems to be hundreds of websites dedicated to just that niche and with so much competition it's hard to decided what's good and what isn't.

You then have to decide what type of radio controlled car you want!

There are various options to choose from including if you want to build it yourself or have it pre built or ready to run as they call it.

Choosing which fuel to opt for also opens up a can of worms and makes the entire process even more baffling.

Now the big one what type of radio control car do you want? One you can race, go off-roading with or even ones that climb over rocks. Seriously, as new buyer I was shocked at just how much I had to choose from and found some of it confusing.

I needed answers and found help from asking myself just one straight forward honest question. What's the one sole reason I want this radio controlled car? By that I mean I had to decide on the main factor for me to make a decision.

As an example the one major factor for you to base your decision on could be money and if that is the case then you can stop looking at nitro and petrol fuelled RC cars now. These are the most expensive.

However if performance and going ultra fast is you single most important reason for wanting this machine then you have to look at anything but electric models and choose a fuel based machine.

Fuel cars generally have the higher running costs compared to electric models. Also nitro fuel can only be bought from specialist stores so consider this also when buying your first RC car.

All in all choosing from a range of radio controlled cars is like choosing a real car. You get what you pay for, so choose wisely and don't be fooled by how it looks only. - 16887

Belly Dancing in Istanbul

By Paul J Eastwood

Belly dancing in Istanbul is big business for the tourism market. The nightclubs of Istanbul offer belly dancing shows that are special for tourists to the country. It is not just meant for the tourists, however. Belly dancing has been a part of Istanbul's culture and tradition for centuries. It has changed over time, but the dance that is seen today has its roots in culture and history of a rich and diverse country.

Belly dancing in Turkey has many characteristics that make it unique to this country. It started out as a dance that was meant for women to view. It has its roots in ancient fertility rituals. Women in Turkey danced for the benefit of other women.

The Costumes

The costume that is traditionally worn in Turkey has a long skirt with very high slits. The leg is shown off and emphasized in a Turkish belly dance routine. The belly dancers of other countries will typically perform their routines without shoes or anything on their feet, but in Turkey it is quite different. Although some of the dancers wear a slipper for their dance routines, many women wear high heels and platform style shoes.

A Turkish belly dancer will often play finger symbols while they are performing their dance routine. These tiny cymbals are called zils. It has been said that the skill of a dancer can be determined by her ability to dance and play these cymbals at the same time. It is not easy to play four cymbals and dance at the same time.

There are not as many restrictions on Turkish belly dancers as there are on Egyptian dancers. There are restrictions on the movements that the belly dancers in Egypt may perform. There are no such restrictions in Turkey and you will frequently see dancers using pelvic thrusts among other restricted moves. The dances of Turkey are very energetic and physically challenging while other countries use a more slow dance.

The Modern World

Belly dancing is an integral part of Turkish culture today. Weddings will often have a belly dancer perform at the celebration. Circumcision ceremonies are another venue for a belly dancer. There are a number of famous and celebrated belly dancers in Turkey. They appear on television and all over the country performing their art form.

Turkish and Egyptian belly dancing are dramatically different. When you get a chance to view a Turkish belly dancing performance you will be taken away by the show. It is a show that is based on flexibility, grace and great showmanship. It will be a fun time for everyone when you decide to take in a show. Be careful, when you view a show you might just want to learn this art form yourself. - 16887

Fruity Loops and Cubase Tutorial - Using Audio Filters

By Todd Craig

The chore of the filters is to take out part of the sound. Then the reduced part you end up with is entirely different to the whole portion that was started out with. The foundation of the whole idea of subtractive synthesis is dependent on filters, which're one of the most primary segments of the creation of sound. All frequencies reach a cut-off, which is the main filter control. There are numerous more recognized types of filters instance

A band on frequencies that are allowed to pass through the center is called as a band pass. Whatsoever frequency outside of this band are stopped.

The low pass filter is the most well-known. Whatsoever frequencies found below the cut-off point are permitted to pass through.

Frequency bands found in the center are not allowed to pass through because of the band notch reject.

The opposite of the low pass of course is the high pass. This filter lets every of the frequencies above the cutoff point to pass.

The higher the attenuation slope number the more efficient it is. The regular numbers are 6dB, 12dB, 18dB, and 24dB per-octave. It is the increased steepness of every octave that makes this effective. When you compare a higher pitch like 2000Hz, which is a higher octave, that 1000Hz. It suggests that a 24dB filter is doubly efficient as a twelve dB filter.

A 2 pole filter is not truly efficient in frequency reduction. Having a 4 pole filter creates a muted dull sound cause the increased number of poles attenuate the signal. The frequency is boosted by the resonance, which is other fantastic feature.

The set frequency grows by being boosted. By doing this the filter with produce its own sine wave, implying it has self oscillated. And so if you change the filter frequency, you could control the pitch.

Creating a filter sweep is easy by using an envelope or LFO This'll give you several brilliant sounds. Resonance by itself is good giving a little more high end sound. - 16887

Getaways That Are Light on the Wallet

By Christopher Pyle

With winter falling away, summer is right on our heals. For a good number of folks, this means time off, a chance to get away from the ole grindstone.

I'm as tired as anyone of hearing about the economy and what people are not doing. So let's talk about what can be done. California is an amazing State, there is plenty to do, right here.

The saying, the grass is always greener, got its start somewhere and I guess we Californians are just as guilty when it comes to neglecting what's right here in front of us in our very own State.

From the oldest standing redwood grove, to massive ports of call, to one of the deepest lakes in the world, some of the best rivers to be rafted and surf to be rip-curled, California is as good as it gets and tens of thousands of people flock to its land yearly.

In this article well look at a specific region of Northern California and explore some of the experiences awaiting you on your Sierra Nevada Foothill getaway.

Lets begin with the area largely responsible for the greater area developing, because of the Gold Rush, the Coloma River Valley and El Dorado County.

Hosting some great vacation spots in all the State is El Dorado County. Only two hours from San Francisco, located between US Hwys 80 and 50, access to both North and South Shores of Lake Tahoe, El Dorado County is a great choice for an affordable and diverse vacation. Being only a day's drive from anywhere in the State makes this super area to explore and vacation.

The History:

James W. Marshall discovered gold in 1848 on the South Fork of the American River in the valley the Nisenan Indians knew as Cullumah. This event led to the greatest mass movement of people in the Western Hemisphere and was the spark that ignited the spectacular growth of the West during the ensuing decades. The gold discovery site, located in the still visible tailrace of Sutter's sawmill, in present day Coloma California, is one of the most significant historic sites in the nation - Excerpted from the Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park website.

So often its easy to overlook whats right here in our backyard, but truly, the epic Gold Rush took place right here. The park is as good a place as any to begin your local getaway. Onsite are many artifacts from the Gold Rush era, including a replica of the mill, still-standing buildings from the day, a museum and a nature trail wherein you can have a park ranger lead a walk through history.

Prior to heading off on your vacation, take a couple of moments and decide what type of break you're looking for. This is a great place for singles, couples and entire family reunions. Are you making a day of this? Is it just you or you and the family coming into town for a little history and picnic on the banks of the South Fork of the American River. Perhaps you are planning the big family get together, reunion style. You'll want to look into some of the local amenities, eateries, lodging, etc.

For bring-your-tent style sleeping and or RV, there are campgrounds and an RV park in the area. Ponderosa Park in Coloma is the RV park but it's a very specific park and you must have membership in the national club, call ahead. Camp Lotus on Bassi Road is a beautiful campground as well there is American River Resort on River Road. An historic hotel may suit your needs better or a bed and breakfast: The Albert Shafsky House in Placerville is a Bed and Breakfast, The Sierra Nevada House is right in Coloma and is an old hotel. Once you're here you have plenty of one and two day excursions to choose from, for example, rafting and or wine tasting?

South East El Dorado County is recognized by the Viticulture Society as some of the best land for specific wine-grape varietals. Thus, some of the best wineries can be visited and tasted while youre right here. Personal favorites are Oakstone and Windwalker wineries both in Fairplay!

Perhaps you'd like to work off the day leisure and kick up the adrenaline a bit, some whitewater rafting on the American River should be just right.

Most all the rafting companies have solid reputations and employ professional guides who put safety first. The best advice to picking one that will suit you and your personality, go with the one you feel most comfortable with on the phone and or in email communication.

We encourage you to come whitewater rafting, raft a day or two or three. With the variety of outings available its a great place for the whole family to meet up and reunion together. Those not into rafting, though its good for most all ages and fitness levels, can find plenty to do for the few hours the rafters are on the water.

Placerville is the main town in El Dorado County and it's steeped in history: it's also known as Hangtown and Dry Diggins. Walking it's sidewalks you'll pass the Mountain Democrat, oldest newspaper in the west and the oldest hardware store, established in the 1800's. Placerville is also home to the first Toyota dealership, Stancil's Toyota.

Stretch yourself a bit more by driving up to South Lake Tahoe and visit the beautiful lake, play a few games, hike through Desolation Wilderness.

Perhaps wed all love to cruise the Mediterranean for a few weeks but its simply not in our cards right now. You can head to the foothills of Northern California from anywhere in the State and be there within a days drive. Once here, with some simple planning, you can have as fulfilling and diverse holiday as nearly anywhere in the world. Tens of thousands of people a year come to visit, shouldnt you? Happy holidays! - 16887

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and the Guillotine Choke

By Steve B

The guillotine choke is one of many submission holds in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Chances are, you have seen this countless times during MMA events.

There are two types of guillotine choke. There is the blood choke and the air choke. If you apply pressure using your forearm against your opponents windpipe, then you achieve an air choke. If this is placed on the arteries of the neck, then you have a blood choke.

In addition to the two types of chokes, you should also know that this can be done while you are standing or on the ground. Most fighters do it while they are standing because of better leverage in this position. If you are on the ground, you must first get your opponent first into a full guard position.

Now it is time to learn how to choke.

You will begin by starting in a standing position and perform the regular guillotine choke. You have to first pull your opponents head down by placing your hand on his neck or by pulling down on his GI so he is facing the ground.

Now put your arm around his neck into a position similar to a headlock. Slide your forearm down under his chin and around his neck making sure that the blade of your forearm is against his neck.

Then grasp the wrist of your choking arm with your free hand. Keep this grip on his neck tightly so that his head is wedged under your arm.

Place one leg slightly forward, stand up straight and twist your hips in the direction of your forward leg you are using to execute this choke.

A more complicated version is the spine locking guillotine choke. Here, you start by bringing your opponents head down and wrap your arms around his head, similar to the regular guillotine choke.

Using your forearm, turn your opponents head towards the hand of your choking arm so can put pressure on his spine.

Put your free hand on your opponents back on the same side of his head as your free hand. Then grasp the wrist of your planted hand with the hand of your choking arm and lean back.

If executed properly, your opponent has no choice but to surrender. If they dont, they will become unconscious in the next few seconds. This move is not only used in competition but also in the street so you just have to practice how to do it.

Aside from the guillotine choke, there are other moves in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu you can learn and apply in and outside the ring.

This can only be used when you are in front of the opponent. There are ways to subdue them when you are able to go behind them or on their side. You just have to listen to your instructor and watch how these are done so you can spar with someone in order to do it correctly. - 16887

Hoops - How to Improve your Jump Shot

By Bill Parsons

Jump shots are sometimes the only way to get a basket and score for your team. It is an essential shot that every player should master. It also requires more skill and practice then stationary shots because, it is a more physical shot.

Players looking to improve or master the jump shot should follow the following advice to make the most out of their practice sessions and make a good move towards being the best at jump shots.

The following advice gives some very practical ideas on how to make good jump shots and how to train yourself so that you can make every jump shot count.

Have a Practice Routine

Every time you are trying to work on a shot you have to develop a practice routine. This allows you to become more at ease with the shot. It helps you to make the shot more second nature.

Make sure that when you are practicing that you have a way to do your shot. You may warm up and stretch and then do some dribbling and then jump shots, for example. Do your routine the same every practice.

Do Specific Exercises

For jump shots you have to really develop your skills at jumping and balance.

You should do jump roping, jumping jacks and other moves that allow you to get practice jumping so you can gain height. You want to get the most height possible on your jumps.

Know the Key Move

A good jump shot will only happen when you can jump straight in the air. To practice this technique you need to practice jumping up and down in a straight line.

You can mark the ground with a circle. When you jump up and down you should make sure you land in the same spot each time. You should practice jumping exercises until you master them and still keep on practicing the moves so you stay good at them.

This is the key move to mastering the jump shot. A straight jump equals a straight shot. It allows you to really be accurate in your jump shot. Without the straight jump your shot is going to be off. Once you are in the air there is nothing you can really do to turn the shot right.

As you can see a lot of the focus is on jumping. That is because a lot of a jump shot is the jump. Every other shot you make is similar to the jump shot, but none is focused so much on air height. You have to take that seriously in order to have a distinguished and effective jump shot.

When you are practicing and working with your jump shot you have to remain focused and be willing to work hard. Jump shots do not come naturally to most people. They involve a lot of work and effort on your part. It is essential that you are serious about getting the height on your jumps and sinking a straight shot. Only then can you truly master the jump shot. - 16887

Golf Club Covers: It's just Weird

By Paul J James

When someone refers to golf club covers they are referring to the sock like covers put on the longer golf clubs known as woods. However the notion of golf club covers can also extend to the rest of the bag of clubs as the idea of iron covers is also becoming quite popular. The golf club covers do a lot for your golf club. They protect your club in the rain and damp weather. If you lay your bag down in freshly cut grass the golf club covers will make sure the grass doesn't cover your clubs.

The golf club covers also protect your clubs from each other as golf clubs can become damaged by banging around into each other while in your bag. It used to be that golf club covers were very basic items that looked like socks and had on them the number of the club that was being covered. A very expensive set of golf club covers would look not unlike a very basic set and they usually served the same purpose. After a while golfers started to express their personality through their golf club covers and whole new industry was born.

It has been going on for a while now. Your big burly friend from work would put a gorilla golf club cover on his driver because he felt that he projected a lot of power with his driver. Sometimes the covers would come in sets of what looked like puppets and they would have entire families of covers to use on clubs that would express a little personality in an otherwise solemn game. Then, not too long ago, someone came along that changed everything and caused a boom in the sales of covers all over the world. That person was Tiger Woods.

Tiger and His Boy Frank

Tiger Woods burst onto the golf scene as an amateur and a golfer had not been so anticipated since Jack Nicklaus. It did not take long for people to start to notice that the golf club cover covering Tiger's driver was a tiger. Soon the sales of tiger driver covers took off and people all over the world were sporting their Tiger Woods' driver cover and adding a bit of color and fun to the exploits on the golf course. Then we learned that the cover had a name and could talk.

Tiger Woods' driver cover is named Frank and thanks to a series of television commercials a couple of years ago everyone got to watch Frank talk and give Tiger advice. It was all in good fun and the result was a thriving industry that has grown up around creating new golf club covers and maybe even finding the next Frank.

Bingham, and Christian Coleman. (99 minutes, 1992)

Hanky Panky: Blameless designer Crazier is pursued by snoops, cops, etc. Unsurprising, hardly ludicrous comedy-thriller, with Radner miscast as the love interest. The film was meant to be a follow-up to Mix Insane, although Richard Pryor's part was revised for Gilda. You've seen it all before, and more superior. Cast includes Gene Crazier, Gilda Radner, Kathleen Quinlan, Richard Widmark, Robert Prosky, Josef Sommer, and Johnny Sekka. (88 minutes, 1982)

Remember, be creative and use phrases like "Watch Movies On Internet". Try a new phrase if that one did not work. See if "Internet Movie Rentals" gets a better result. - 16887

Justin Guanni won second place and the two even appeared together in a movie that although did not get good reviews they were still seen as America?s sweethearts. Kelly Clarkson later moved on and became a celebrated pop star in her own right.

Season two had Rubin Studdard and Clay Aiken battling it out, and in the end after the closest results in the history of the program were counted, Rubin prevailed as the winner despite claims that faulty phone lines affected the outcome.

Seasons three and four showed that America likes many different styles of singing with vocalists Fantasia and Carrie Underwood performing vastly different music selections but still claiming the same title as American Idol. Since then Carrie Underwood has not only become an amazing and very well recognized country music star, but she has won every award possible to win.

Season five brought us Taylor Hicks who combined many music themes like Elvis, Joe Cocker, groove and even soul to win America?s hearts.

In the final season, it was the power of gospel that brought Jordin Sparks that much closer to living her dream.

The bottom line is that American Idol, similar to karaoke gives somebody a chance to show what they got when it comes to belting out a good tune and we all wait in anticipation for the next outcome! - 16887

Alex Rodriguez

By Denise I Smithson

Alex Rodriguez affectionately known as A-Rod to his team mates and fans is the third base man for the New York Yankees. Alex was born in Washington Heights New York City where the family lived until he was four. The family then moved back to their native Dominican Republic, they lived there a short time before returning to the states to live in Miami Florida. Alex's father would soon abandon the family to return to New Jersey.

In Miami Rodriguez would begin his baseball career playing for his high school team. It was here that Alex would go All-American his senior year and be the first high school player to ever to try out for Team America.

He signed a letter of intent to join the University of Miami baseball team after finishing high school. However Rodriguez instead opted to forgo the scholarship and instead enter the amateur draft.

He was quickly picked up by the Seattle Mariners, where he played as the third 18 year old short stop since the turn of the century. His star was rising, but the season was cut short due to the Major League strike of 1994.

Because of this disruption, A-Rod didn't get a chance to really shine until the 1996 season, when he batted an incredible .358 average, scored 36 home runs and 123 RBIs, the highest averages for any right handed batter in the American League since Joe Di Maggio! This was a stellar season for Rodtriguez, with the highest total of hits, doubles, extra base hits and runs in the Major Leagues - he finished the season with the Major League Player of the Year title.

Rodriguez continued with the Mariners until becoming a free agent and playing with the Texas Rangers for a short time. In 2004, Rodriguez was signed by the New York Yankees, where he still plays today. He has continued to play at a level few others can match, winning the MVP titles in 2005 and 2007. He has been criticized by sportswriters and fans for sometimes failing to hold up under pressure, something which has not bothered him; says Rodriguez: "I could care less. In my career, I've been hearing it for a long time. It will never stop until you win five or six World Series in a row, and hit a Joe Carter home run. I've done a lot of special things in this game, and for none of that to be considered clutch, it's an injustice." The Yankees apparently do not agree with this criticism, having signed him to a 10 year, $275 million contract. If Rodriguez breaks the home run record while on the team, he stands to make millions more.

The player's personal life has also been a topic of discussion, with A-Rod having been spotted in the company of another woman at a strip club (he and his wife are divorcing). There have also been rumors that he and the singer Madonna have had an affair, something supported by the singer's divorce from husband Guy Ritchie. - 16887

Thoroughbred Breeding-When Did It Start?

By david oneil

Thoroughbred breeding first began in England due to the crusaders breeding large, heavy horses for their stamina, hard work and the ability to carry a crusader in all his armour and in the middle east horses which were lighter and agile were being bred for their speed.

A Middle Eastern Stallion known as Byerlye Turk was used for breeding by his owner, an english captain. Byerlye Turk was bred with English mares and produced the Herod line of thoroughbreds.

The descendants of this particular stallion and others like him that were brought to England were bred and crossbred to create a line of horses that were very strong but exceedingly fast. The horses had long, strong hind legs in order to produce the fastest speed, a wide girth which enabled a larger lung capacity. The shoulders of these horses are long and sloped to allow an even greater stride. Breeding these horses was an amazing accomplishment.

The United States Of America now has the most thoroughbreds, with approximately 50,000 new foals being registered during the last year. The industry is massive, and billions of dollars are involved. America is the forerunner in thoroughbred racing.

All thoroughbred foals have the official birthdate of the 1st January allocated to them even if they were born in June. Their racing career ususally begins at about two years of age but many do not race for long due to injuries. They are then either retired or sold.

Thoroughbred horses are usually very highly strung and tempremental and I know from experience do not make very good "all round" horses. In fact a friend of mine has recently purchased a retired thoroughbred racing horse who only responds to stop and gallop! They are, however, good with many people as they are used to having different trainers from such a young age. - 16887
