Pink BMX - what to look for when buying a Pink BMX

By Andrew Sutton

How to Shop First things first: Who will be riding the BMX bicycle? How important is a brand name? How long will Junior ride this BMX bike before he graduates to a mountain bike, or loses interest altogether and picks up a skateboard?

Be careful even with more expensive BMX bicycles, the price can be inflated for a fashionable bike or one that's endorsed by a popular pro rider, even though it may not offer any better features or construction than a cheaper model. Differentiation of quality among brands, especially advertising and certain salespeople would have you believe. Particularly true of cheaper BMX bikes, many of which are made in the same factories overseas and then painted with different companies' logos. Much of the purchasing decision will come down to you or your child's riding preference, their need to follow fashion, and of course, the amount you are willing to pay.

Key features to look out for: Depending on the type of BMX riding you're interested in, BMX racing bikes need to be lightweight as well as rugged. They usually feature 36-spoke wheels and should come equipped with knobby tires for better traction on dirt.Racing BMX bicycles usually require only single, rear wheel brakes.

Freestyle BMX bikes, on the other hand, are for the street so you'll want smooth tires and 48-spoke wheels for an increased strength. A freestyle BMX bicycle should have brakes on the rear wheel as well as the front, along with special stunt components such as cable detanglers so the cables don't break or become knotted when you spin the handlebars in mid-air. The handlebars should be able to spin 360 degrees. The frame should have 2 or 4 axle pegs for supporting the rider while he or she performs freestyle tricks.

BMX dirt-jumping bikes also need 48-spoke wheels, but with knobby rather than smooth tires, again for maintaining a good grip on dirt-jumping mounds. These bikes usually feature heavier duty frames and axles as well, with reinforced gussets in order to withstand the heavy landings from huge air jumps. Like a racing BMX bicycle, a dirt jumping bike will only need a single, rear wheel brake.

Possible Extra Kit Young kids and beginners should only ride within their skill and experience levels. Any rider will need elbow and knee pads in addition to a safety helmet, especially those involved in freestyle riding and dirt jumping. It's worth telling your kids that tricks and stunts performed on telly are by undertaken by skilled pro riders with years of experience.

BMX frame Size Unless you are shopping for a very young child, there are usually only minor variations in the size of a BMX bicycle frame, variations that reflect the riding style of a rider rather than his or her body size. As your child grows or his riding style changes, you might need to buy a longer seat post or adjust the handle bars to accommodate those changes.

To Department Shop or to Buy Local It is worth bearing in mind that buying a BMX bicycle from a department store rather than a specialist bike shop may not provide you with the follow-up replacement parts you may need in the future. Your local bicycle shop will likely not only offer the most helpful advice during the shopping process, but after you've made your purchase, they'll also be there with mechanical support as well. A bigger selection will mean better choices, better deals, and salespeople who ride BMX bikes themselves.

Ways to save some money As with other types of bikes, getting the best deal when purchasing a BMX bicycle is not just about knowing how to shop, but also when to shop. BMX bicycle prices can vary throughout the year, with the most popular time to buy a new BMX bike being the spring or summer. We would advise if you can wait until autumn or winter when sales dip you are more likely to pick up a bargain deal from a shop that is eager to sell the older model BMX bicycles to make way for the next year's model.

Andrew Histon has been messing about with Pink BMX Bikes since his teens. When not writing articles he is busy in the garage. You may see many of his articles around the internet. - 16887

6 Tips To Maintain Your iPhone & Keep Scratches Off Its Back

By Peter Barter

Your iPhone is an investment, and you surely will not want to spoil it by not maintaining it, or letting it get covered with scratches. Protect your iPhone with these tips, and you would be able to enjoy it for a longer time!

One. Keep your iPhone away from things that could scratch it. If any case you're going to put it in your pocket or purse, don't put it in the exact pocket you keep your keys or your spare change, as either one is in all probability likely to scratch it.

2. Get a case. There is a plethora of types of covers available for you to utilize to protect your iPhone. Several of them include flip cases, slip pouches, gel skins, rigid cases, weather resistant covers, and leather covers. You can get sports cases for when you don't have a pocket or a free-hand. Sports covers are armbands with an attached pocket or sleeve for your iPhone. If any case you're fashion conscious, you could also get Gucci or other designer iPhone covers. You could get cases that look like purses. Iphone cases come in every color thinkable. Several cases fit so tightly around your phone, leaving the screen available for you, that they look like the phone itself. So whatever your preference in a case, you can find one that you like, and it could keep your iPhone looking like new.

3. To keep grease and smudges away from the screen, get a few screen protectors. These bits of film adhere to your screen, usually by static, without clouding your visual. You use your iPhone screen just like normal, right through the screen protector.

Four. Some other selection for protecting your iPhone from dirt and scratches is an Air Jacket kit. The air jacket is a fine layer of protection only one millimeter thick. It is near invisible, even so it still protects your phone. The air jacket gives you zero protection for if you accidentally drop your phone, but it would keep away the grease, smudges, and scratches which spoil your iPhone's finish. The kit comes with the air jacket, a fine crystal film, and an anti glare film for the LCD.

5. There are also things you could do to maintain your iPhone's battery, and extend it's life. First and foremost, keep your iPhone away from heat. Do not leave it in a hot car, or any where any place else under the sun. Heat is the worst thing for your iPhone's battery, and may ruin it speedier than just about any thing else. Also, you should go through one charge cycle monthly to perserve the battery. To do this, charge it up to 100 percent and then let the charge drain totally down to 0%. Lock your phone when you are not using it, and keep power-draining programmes, such as gaming, to a average level. Doing these things would keep your battery functioning at an optimum level.

6. Part of maintaining and protecting your iPhone is cleaning it. To clean it, begin with turning off your iPhone for safety, then use the cleaning cloth that come with it. If that is not available, you could use any soft, lint-free cloth. Get it somewhat damp, but not too wet. Do not use whatever cleaning solvents, alcohol, household cleaners, window cleaners or abrasives. Make sure you do not get any moisture in any of the openings.

A clean, well maintained iPhone will look good, and make you look good. It will work better with more efficiency. And it will be there to bring you ease, convenience, and fun entertainment for a very time to come. Have fun!! - 16887

Advice and Tips on How to Save Money for Traveling

By Matthew Kepnes

One of the reasons that people tend to avoid long term travel is because they think it is expensive and feel they will never save enough for a trip. That is not true. One of the greatest myths of travel is that it is expensive. People assume that to travel you need to be rich because all people see are advertisements for expensive vacations and assume all travel is like that. But it isn't. In fact, travel can be quit cheap. You can travel around the world for under $15,000 dollars for one year of travel. If you only visit cheap countries, you can do it for even less.

$15,000 dollars sounds like a lot of money right? Sure it is but in terms of living off just that for one year, it's quite reasonable. You probably spend more than that already. It also sounds impossible to save but you're wrong again. There are plenty of ways to save that much money in a year. It simply requires persistence and making saving money a habit and priority.

That sum of money works out to be around $1,200 US dollars per month and there are many ways to save that. Think about how much money you spend per month and how much you save. If you save 500 dollars, then you only need to find another 700 dollar per month. Do you think there is an extra 700 dollars in your budget? I know there is. You just need to find and cut the fat.

Cut out your consumption and buy only things you need. That is the real secret to saving for a trip around the world. Buy only what you need and save the rest. People spend hundreds of dollars a month on little things that they don't really need- DVDs, music, movies, drinks, and a lot more. All of that adds.

There are a lot of ways to save money. The trick is to be less of a consumer. People love to buy things and spend money but you can't. It is just wasteful. Think of the larger goal. You are going to travel around the world. You need to make a budget of all the things you spend money on and cut out all non essential items. This will help you save. It's easy if you just trim the fat and consume less.

If you follow the tips from above, there is no way you won't be able to save for your trip. Your friends might not see you for a long time and you may be brown bagging it to work a lot but in the end you will be traveling around the world and that will be worth all the sacrifice you did. No guts, no glory. No saving, no traveling. - 16887

Soccer Players: Don't Run So Much

By Jerry De Becker

It's often quoted that soccer players have to run at least 7 miles per game. And some players even train by running marathons on the side.

I'm here to tell you that training long distance running is bad for soccer fitness. Here's why and what to do instead:

In an average game, a soccer player will:

* Stand: 3-4 minutes

* Walk: 40 minutes

* Jog: 35 minutes

* Sprint: 7-16 minutes depending on the position

I'm not sure who figured that out but I've seen those stats a few times.

Long distance running only helps with jogging. Not only would you be hurting when it came to sprinting, but that kind of training reduces your sprinting ability.

Arthur De Vany wrote an article on the top 10 reasons marathons are bad for you. Among the reasons are various permanent heart, liver, kidney, brain and muscle damage. They even raise the risk of cancer. I'm not sure why anyone would want to do that. Soccer players can't afford that kind of risk to our health.

What should you do instead? Interval training. That's high intensity bursts followed by rest. Try running hills, fartleks or even circuit training routines if it's too bad to get outside. Or just do sprints. The rest of your jogging endurance will be filled out fine in the running you do in practice.

An additional clue should be the physical difference between elite sprinters and marathon runners. Clearly sprinters look more like pro soccer players. If you're always the last one to get to the play, being able to run forever doesn't do you any good in soccer.

How far should you run? I wouldn't make it a practice of running more than 3 miles at a time. Even then, you'd be better served to skip the distance and run some more sprints, do polymetrics, kettlebells or lift weights. - 16887

Healthy Food Choices " Where it All Begins

By Thong M. Dao

I know it's hard to prepare healthy food meals for your families, when you do not know where to start. But it's easier than you think. Start out by choosing the most healthy foods, then create a healthy eating menu and healthy meal plans.

Here's a list of healthy food choices.

1. Grains. 6 ounces of grains are recommended daily. The most healthy grain foods are whole grain cereal, rice, breads and even pasta.

2. Vegetables. Remember that vegetables are a must-have. Consume approximately 2 cups and a half daily. Spinach, broccoli and collar greens are highly ranking. Just remember the darker, the better. Beans, like baby Lima or even peas, are on this list.

3. Fruits. Fruits are very important. We should aim to eat 2 cups of them each day. Focus on a wide range of fresh fruits. We can drink fruit juices as well, though we should keep it in moderation.

4. Milk. Hmm.... We all know that milk does good to the body as it is high in calcium. Adults should aim at 3 cups and young children 2 cups a day. Lactose-free products are also available for those who dislike or are allergic to dairy products.

5. Meat. 5 ounces per day do not seem like a lot. Don't forget to select lean protein meats. Stay away from fried foods. Grilling, baking or even broiling is ideal. Fish, beans and nuts are also excellent protein sources.

To get the most healthy food menu without adding cholesterol, you have to remove from your grocery list some items like butter, margarine, shortening and lard.

The nutrition label on the back of each product will give you information about saturated fat, trans fat and sodium content. Keep your intake of these as low as possible.

By picking the most healthy foods for our healthy meal plans, we'll control our lifestyle. Exercise is great as well, as it goes along perfectly with healthy food choices. No matter what our age may be, eating healthy will help us keep the active lifestyle and good health for years to come. - 16887

Getting a Zimmer Durom Cup Settlement

By Maxwell Schmickman

Hundreds of people who had hip replacement surgery using a Zimmer Durom Cup implant prior to July, 2008 are now experiencing complications that doctors never anticipated. They are having pain long after the normal recovery period, needing to have revision surgeries to take care of defective implants, incurring high medical bills, and losing wages from not being able to work. Zimmer Holdings, Inc., manufacturer of the Durom Cup, claims that their product is not defective; however, they have been offering settlements to some patients which shows they are accepting some liability.

Faced with hundreds of lawsuits, Zimmer announced in October, 2008 that it had set aside $47.5 million to pay certain claims. Even so, they say that their device is not at fault. Doctors, on the other hand, aren't all convinced that no fault lies with the implant. When the Durom Cup was put back on the market in August, 2008, Zimmer also offered physicians an online training course which it claimed would teach them the precision they needed to correctly use the hip replacement device. Of the surgeons who had already done surgeries using the cups, only 50% opted to take the training in order to use the technology again. The others felt it would be a waste of time and chose not to participate. There has been a great deal of stress for everyone involved with Durom Cup surgery, especially for the hundreds of patients who are facing more problems and revision surgery.

Because of all these people have suffered, product liability lawyers have taken an interest in their cases. They have been chagrined to see many patients accepting settlements from Zimmer thinking they are fair and adequate payments. In the interest of speedy closures, people are accepting far less money in settlements than what the case is ultimately going to be worth. Zimmer is offering quick fixes to the problems people have had so far, but they haven't been addressing the fact that additional problems may cost these people thousands of dollars more as time goes on.

If you had a hip replacement surgery between 2006 and July, 2008 and are experiencing pain, you owe it to yourself to contact your surgeon and find out if a Durom Cup was used in your procedure. If you find that you were one of the recipients of this device, you may qualify to file a claim against Zimmer. You can find out for sure by calling a your favorite legal representative. I would recommend one that operates nationally and specializes in medical product litigations. In fact, realizing the scope of the Zimmer problem, the law firm has set up a special division that is devoted to taking care of claims against the manufacturer. You can contact them to represent you if you choose, or you can hire a local product liability law firm.

If you've been having pain and trouble getting around due to your hip replacement, talk to your doctor about it. He may tell you that you'll need revision surgery to correct a problem with the implant. If this happens, contact a medical product liability lawyer immediately. This attorney will then make sure that everything is fully documented about your case and your revision so that you can be sure to get the settlement you deserve. If you don't involve an experienced attorney, you stand to lose thousands of dollars that you are entitled to, so don't take that chance.

Once you've determined that you have a valid case against Zimmer, it's going to take some time to receive a settlement. Your lawyer will want to make sure that he's covered all of your bases and is getting you the maximum amount he can in settlement. Trying to rush your case through will only end up with you getting a settlement that is too small, so be patient. - 16887

This truth may hurt. This article is not meant to offend anyone. It is meant to open everyone's eyes to what we as a society are doing to our children and our nation.

When you were a child did your mother cook for you. When I was a child my mother used to cook dinner every night. She made me eat my vegetables. I couldn't leave the table until I had eaten everything she thought I should have eaten no matter how many gagging noises I made or how much I pretended I was going to throw up.

There was a Dairy Queen about 2 miles away but if I wanted junk food from there, I had to ride my bicycle down without her knowing about it. Sometimes I even walked with my sister.

McDonalds was not located on every corner or every 2 minutes apart back then.

My parents did not let me drink soda. I could only have soda on special occasions like visiting my grandparents and even that was like grape soda or root beer. No Caffeine! I drank strange things like milk, juice and water. Snacks consisted of apples. I took my lunch to school.

I didn't have a video game. I had to do crazy things for entertainment like play outside. I had strange toys like tennis racquets, footballs, basketballs, Frisbees, slingshots and BB guns. I had Gi Joes and toys soldiers. I knew how to play hide and go seek and I could run and ride bicycles. I even knew how to swim and took Judo lessons at the YMCA.

There was only 1 "fat kid" in the school. She was teased a lot. Sorry that is just how it was back then. We just were not used to seeing fat people that were children.

Boy, have times changed!

Cooking! What's that. Parents don't know how to cook anymore. I guess some do but McDonalds is so much easier. They think eating healthy is eating a Fried Chicken Breast sandwich from a fast food restaurant with a diet soda. Soda does not count as water. Kids these days are not forced to eat vegetables. Parents don't want to have to argue with their children. It is a parent's job to decide what a child eats and to make them eat healthy. My son says my job is to protect him. Teaching him how to eat properly and saying no to him is my job as a parent.

Today children think basketball, football, volleyball and tennis are played on video game screens. The only part that is getting exercise is their thumbs. Come on parents. Outside is good for a child. Make your kid play outside. I have parents come into my Karate School everyday with overweight children wanting to get them away from computers and video games. You could just take the games and TV's away. Over 50% of the kids in my karate school come in the door overweight.

When I was a kid I had to take a bath after I was done playing. Today, kids only have to wash their thumb that was working the button or their joystick hands when they are done playing.

When I was a kid we had 4 channels. No cable or satellite TV. Sure there was nothing on TV worth watching so I wanted to play outside. But as a parent today all we have to do is take the TV out of the child's room and turn off the computers and games. Take your child outside and spend some quality time on weekends. My 8-year-old son says Sunday is Daddy Play Day. Sure it is tough on me being 44 but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

A couple of days ago a lady called me. She has a 5-year-old child. I tried to talk here into a program geared for 4 - 5 year olds. She was insisting that her child be in the big kids class because he needed the harder exercise. I agreed to let him try the class out to see if he could pay attention and stay focused.

When the child walked in I noticed he was almost as wide as he was tall. We tried him out; he was as I figured, too young for the class. At this age exercise should not be to get back in shape. It should be fun. A 5-year-old should never have been given the chance to get out of shape. Whose fault is it? Did the 5 year old get the car keys and drive to get a cheeseburger and fries? I don't think so. The parents give in to the child and let them eat what they want. Immediately after the trial class while I was trying to talk to the mother, the child kept saying, "I want Cheetos, I want Cheetos". So what did the mother of the overweight 5-year-old child do? She bought him Cheetos and a Sprite. The child didn't sign up. He said the class was too much work. Since when is exercise too much work?

I have parents walk in every day and not sign up because they don't want to commit to the 1-year contract. They don't want to force little Johnny to do anything that he may not like. Exercise is good for their body and their minds. Do you realize how much better a brain thinks when exercise pushes the blood to the brain? Exercise will make you smarter.

Adults don't want to push their children into anything these days or force them to commit to it because their parent forced them to do things they didn't like to do things. But my question to you is this, are you successful today because your parents forced you to exercise and forced you to commit to projects and sports? Did they let you quit sports when you had a bad day? Did they let you quit anything? Mine didn't. And I thank them for not letting me quit everything. The habits of quitting and not committing to things are going to follow your children through life. If you let them always quit things as a child then they are never going to be able to hold a long-term job as a teen or adult. Think about this when they say karate is too hard and I don't want to go anymore. Think about them quitting their 1st job when they are 16 because they had to work hard that day. Think about them dropping out of college if they make it that far. Think about them quitting a job every 2 years as an adult. Did you quit every 2 years and become as successful as you are today with these quitter habits.

Probably not.

I bet my frustration shows. I guess the reason I am writing this article is to remind everyone over 30 that we were not raised this way so why are we raising our children this way?

Betts

By Denise I Smithson

The New York Rangers acquired Blair Betts in the 2005-06 NHL Hockey season and he has been with them, centering on the defensive 4th line. He is one of the New York Rangers most consistent face-off men winning a more than losing them.

The New York Post wrote that Blair Betts and his teammate, Sjostrom, could be the best penalty kill tandem in Rangers history and they had a franchise high of 87.6 percent. He has also been declared one of the most underrated players in the league.

Having played for the Calgary Flames since 1998, before joining the New York Rangers, this Canadian born ice hockey player weighs 210 pounds at 6 feet 3 inches. His pro career started in 2001 and he has been a consistent defensive center.

The New York Rangers, however, have not done so well. They are going through their highest losing streak, so it may be hard to determine where some of the praise for Blair Betts is translating into winning games for the team.

Blair Betts has been also plagued with injuries, suffering a broken orbital bone around his left eye in May, 2008, and recovering from an upper body injury in December, 2008. Prior to that injury, he had three goals and five points in 28 games this past season. In his fourth season with the New York Rangers, he has missed time with injuries to his knee, foot and face.

As everyone knows, NHL play is rough and injuries are relatively common, particularly in defensive players. Only 28, Betts has seen plenty of the ice since he began playing with the Calgary Flames back in 1998.

He actually began his career in 1996 playing for the Prince George Cougars in the Western Hockey League, before being drafted by the Flames in the 1998 NHL draft. Some may wonder if it is taking a toll on his health and ability to be a consistent player.

Betts scored eight goals and two assists in his first season as a Ranger and since then, he has played mostly on special teams, being widely known for his penalty killing prowess and skill in face-offs.

In his NHL career, Betts has racked up 27 goals and 18 assists, mostly while playing for the New York Rangers. The Rangers are going through tough times at the moment - and his being sidelined for injuries is probably not helping matters any. However, many believe that the Rangers have a great defensive line; but it is their offense which is not up to snuff.

Experts blame the Rangers last place position on a lack of confidence and a failure of the players to gel as a team. Whether Blair Betts can do much to help bring the Rangers out of the slump remains to be seen. Other players, and Rangers General Manager, Sather could shoulder much of the blame. Blair Betts has a lot of work cut out for him with this team, and could probably do better on one that would do him justice. - 16887

Learn The Elements of a Golf Swing

By Andrew

There are some basic elements of the golf swing that the golfer should use as a mental checklist when taking a shot. The first element is the bodys alignment toward the target. Stand five to ten feet behind the ball, with the ball directly between your body and the desired target. Locate guiidance targets on the ground (leaves, blades of grass, dirt, etc.) inches in front and behind the golf ball that should be on a direct line with where you are standing and the target. Keep your eyes on those ground targets as you approach the ball.

Align the clubface behind the ball, with the center of the clubface on a direct line between the two ground targets you have selected. Grip the club with just enough tension to keep it from slipping in your hands throughout the course of the golf swing. Align your feet on a parallel plain with your ground targets, shoulder width apart, and the knees slightly bent. The front foot should be pointed slightly outward, toward the target, to allow your hips to flow freely through the swing.

Tilt your torso slightly towards the ball while keeping your back striaght. The arms should now hang freely in front of the body to grip the club. The shoulders should be parallel with the ground targets and the toes, and your head should be tilted downward with your eyes on the ball. These motions described are known as the set-up, or addressing the ball.

You are ready to begin the golf swing. Keeping your back elbow tucked as closely to your ribs as possible, slowly take the club back on a straight line along the plain of the ground targets. Keep your front elbow locked throughout the back swing and never take your eyes off the ball. This motion should naturally tuck your chin into your front shoulder. Hips should remain still and slightly tilited, while the front knee will turn inward. At the apex of the back swing, allow your wrists to break slightly.

Bring the club downward toward the ball, uncoiling the wrists, and shifting your weight onto your front foot. You should attempt to generate force and speed on your down swing, while never take the clubface off of the target line. Upon making contact with the ball, the clubface should strike the ground as it moves through, taking a divot from the ground in the area past where the ball was lying, and through your second ground target.

Finish the golf swing with a nice, high follow through of the club. Your hips should be turned toward the target. Your weight should have shifted, and should now be firmly on your right foot. Smlie and watch the ball fly toward the target. - 16887

Barry Bonds Baseball

By Denise I Smithson

The success of Barry Bonds' baseball career was really just the beginning of a story that may eventually overshadow his achievements. As an outfielder, Bonds racked up four MVP awards, each one of them in consecutive years. He was a player in the 2007 World Series, and has become one of the most well known baseball players of his time. In 2006, he was busy slugging homeruns and passed Ruth and Aaron to land in first place for the most homers of any ball player.

Sadly, there may be an asterisk next to all of these records. Bonds has admitted to steroid usage (although he denies having willingly or knowingly taken the drug), something which was long rumored. Bonds did not exactly have a rapport with the fans, despite his performance on the diamond. Many hated him and he gladly returned the favor. Bonds burned so many bridges that no team was willing to sign him on for the 2008 season (and he has no contracts lined up for the 2009 season at the time of this writing), despite his holding the record for career home runs at 762 and most home runs in a single season at 73.

With a jet setting career and a financial future already assured, this godson of the great Willie Mays, came under significant scrutiny regarding the well-publicized Bay Area Laboratory Cooperative case, and was charged and indicted with perjury. He had apparently lied about steroid use when he was under oath and the courts held him accountable for his actions.

This case has cast a shadow over his entire career in the sport. The validity of his awards and records have been called into question by fans and the administrative body governing the sport alike.

A pall has been thrown over a career in baseball which began in high school, when Bonds was courted by the Giants while still a senior. He did not end up signing on with the Giants, choosing to pursue a college education. Bonds played in college as well, where in a single year he scored seven hits in a row in the College World Series and was picked as All American selection of the year by the publication Sporting News.

Bonds will have his day in court for obstruction of justice charges stemming from the BALCO investigation in March of this year. Bonds still argues that he never knowingly took steroids, but how the case will play out in the courts remains to be seen.

Bonds has been spending his time away from the diamond by working with children's hospitals, a public service which has comforted many sick and even terminally ill children. Bonds holds an honorary chairmanship from the Macy's Tree Lighting committee - this committee raises money for UCSF Children's Hospital Palliative Care Program, a children's hospice. - 16887

Some tips about Pike Fishing

By Jonny Edvardsen

Before you can catch a pike you have to understand a basic thing about the pike. To make this clear we can illustrate it with an example.

There are many similarities in the animal kingdom. When watching animal programs you can see these similarities, and the differences if pay attention. Wolves and lions are similar in many ways, but there is one thing that separates them in particular.

The wolf is a predator that can chase a prey for days. Just following it and tiring it until it falls down. This is a tactic that is commonly used by another fish, the salmon. It too chases its prey around in the water until it catches up.

When we see a lion, on the other hand, we can see a totally different strategy used. It waits in high grass for its prey to come walking by. It then rushes out of its hiding place with extreme pace and catches the poor animal. This can be compared to the way that a Pike catches its prey. It finds a hiding spot, and waits for food to swim by just like the lion.

Does this information do us any good when we are fishing? Of course it does. It tells us where we should look for the pike. And that can be the difference between catching one and going home with an empty bag. And now we know that the pike likes places it can hide.

The second thing we learn is that the pike likes to be close to the bottom of the lake. This is because this is where the best hiding places usually are.

What should we use as a bait to catch a pike then? The best option would probably be a wobbler. It has everything that a pike looks for and it resembles not only a fish, it resembles an injured fish. An injured fish is always an easier target for the pike and will be much more effective. Another option is live bait. - 16887

Aikido Techniques - Ki Energy: The Strength Under the Surface

By Aikido411

In a galaxy far, far away Star Wars introduced us to the concept of the Force, which Obi Wan Kenobi described as an invisible energy field that flows through all living beings. Many Aikido practitioners receive training in Ki development because it is believed that a similar force, called Ki, flows through us in the same way and is the source of power, which originates from the Center or One-point. Key (no pun intended) to understanding this concept includes: The Unbendable Arm and Breathing to generate mental relaxation.

The Unbendable Arm - Among the first questions asked by new Aikido students is "what is this force and how do we know when we have it"? Many have heard the story of an individual generating the strength to free a loved-one trapped underneath a heavy object. We imagine the power of Ki as an untapped reservoir akin to the mass of an iceberg, which lies under the surface of the ocean. One of the first ki training exercises is Orenaite also known as the unbendable arm. Ki flows through the healthy body continuously and can be redirected to focus power in a specific location and direction. To help our students visualize this concept, we ask them to extend one arm straight and to imagine directing an imaginary stream of water from our center, through our head and out the arm in a powerful stream focused on putting our water. What we find is that this relaxed arm can be held straight much more powerfully than trying to consciously hold it straight with muscle power. This imaginary water is our visualization of the flowing ki energy.

Breathing to generate mental relaxation - The focus of the four principles of Aikido is to generate Ki energy or power though relaxation of the mind. Aikido practitioners believe that the relaxed mind is essential to the unimpeded flow of Ki. This relaxed mental and physical state does not just happen, in fact the more extraneous thoughts that run through the mind, the more Ki flow is restricted. Misogi breathing helps the student to release these stressful thoughts and to relax by focusing on breathing. The student sits comfortably, with eye half closed, and imagines that breath is flows into the nose, through the mind and down into the center or one-point, which expands with the breath. In the exhalation phase of the exercise the breath moves from the center through the mind and out the mouth in an "ahhhh" sound. The goal of this exercise is to release all extraneous thoughts permitting the mind to relax and that the breathing becomes the all encompassing focus of the mind. Through Misogi breathing, the mind and body become united rather than disconnected where tension from the mind creates tension in the body.

When one observes someone who has internalized the principles of Aikido, he see an individual whose movements are relaxed and flowing. The mind that is calm relaxes the body and permits weight to naturally settle on the underside and allows the center to become the solid focal point of the technique. This relaxed mind "sees" everything from the potential threats to openings or opportunities. Finally, the relaxed mind and body are unified, which permits optimal, unrestricted ki flow and resultant power it generates.

Ki energy is like the Force in that it is invisible and the source of a tremendous amount of power when executing Aikido techniques. This energy is maximized when the mind is relaxed. Techniques such as misogi breathing help the student to develop ki energy to tap the enormous power, which lies just under the surface. - 16887

Seaside Crafts at Louisiana

By Myke Oswald

It is quite a normal thing to love the sea. When I was a child, up to my early twenties, the best memories I had were always something that was near water. I assumed it was natural for someone who had relatives with a fishing business, but on second thought, I also know some other people in similar situations who'd disagree.

It wasn't much of a surprise for my friends when I told them I was going to use the sea as inspiration for my crafts. I used natural items I found on the beach; seashells of different shapes and colors, odd bits of coral and smooth driftwood, and sometimes even dried up starfishes. I use these to decorate or create household items like picture frames, kitchen magnets or ashtrays.

Sometimes, however, I get lucky enough and find a pearl or two. I also buy them when I have the chance, and I use it to make some more elaborate jewelry. I then show these things off to my friends, who are rightly envious of them. They wanted me to make some for them, too.

So, I got to thinking; maybe these pieces I'm making would sell quite well to more people! I logged on to the Internet and found a few sites about craft shows in Louisiana. In a couple of days, I got excited and started fervently making lots and lots of sculptures and household trinkets that were infused with an ocean motif.

In a matter of months, I had a lot of crafts. Now all I needed was to sell some of them in one of these craft shows. Deciding to start on the ones near my area, I called them up to ask about how they ran things.

And that's how I got started. That's how I started selling my pieces at craft shows. My special bond with the sea really helps me make my crafts unique and special, as the spirit of the sea is infused within the items. - 16887

A Guide To Fruit Machine Games - Straight Slots and Progressives

By Allen Flores

For most individuals it doesnt matter which type of fruit machine they play. It can either just be the straight slots version or the progressives. If one wins the progressive they can stand to win a great deal, more cash than they may on the straight slots. Ordinarily the progressive fruit machine is a little more expensive to play. Reason being because of the huge amount of cash that is the pot. Essentially how it functions is, every time someone plays the game the jackpot increases a little. Often these are tied into a couple of machines, so the jackpot can rise dramatically over a period of days. Needless to say this certain fruit machine jackpot does not go too frequently.

The straight slots are a lot of fun to play and maybe in numerous cases are a little more relaxing to play than the fruit-machine. With the straight slots youve zero decisions to make except to bet the max or to carry on betting. Besides that its just press the button and go on rolling.

The fruit-machines make you consider a little more and there is more decision making to be made. A couple of these special machines will give you a selection to hold the reels on your next spin. And then there are the reels that will move one up or down. Speak about an exciting time. The anticipation of waiting for that reel to go up or down can be breathtaking.

There are bonus games on the straight slots too that make you choose from several objects, but there doesn't seem to be as many options with these games as there is with the fruit machine.

There're actually mixed feeling when it gets to the choice 'tween the straight slots and the fruit-machines. Several believe it is easier to fix a straight slot if there are lesser selections. A couple others feel its easier to rig a fruit-machine because of the additional options. Regardless who thinks what though it doesnt appear to slow the popularity of these machines.

Thus as far as major differences go 'tween the regular slot-machine and the fruit machines is the slot-machine is strictly a random win where as with the fruit-machine because of the several choices you will technically a little bit of an advantage.

The main thing to remember whether relishing the straight slots or the fruit slot is to play at a reputable organization, whether on land or on-line, particularly if you're betting for real money. Some other type of straight slot that in numerous ways is alike to the fruit-slot is the video slots. These're multi line slots and can add up to be rather expensive when it comes to betting on every line. It might say 5 cents a line, but if there are 20 lines then you're paying a one dollar a roll. With the fruit machine it will cost you a dollar a roll as well but you're getting numerous extra chances to win something at least. - 16887

Babe Ruth Baseball

By Denise I Smithson

Babe Ruth is a name which is instantly familiar to people around the world; even those who are not baseball fans and those far too young to actually remember the Sultan of Swat know his name and are familiar with the House That Ruth Built. Among younger Major League players, one of Babe's superstitions has taken hold. As Babe said "whenever I hit a home run, I always make sure I touch all four bases". Babe Ruth was larger than life in every sense of the word and he remains deeply rooted in the popular imagination - for there may be another like him.

Born George Herman Ruth Jr. to parents George Sr. and Kate Schamberger-Ruth in Baltimore, Maryland in 1895, Ruth and his sister Mamie were the only two survivors out of eight children. Ruth did not have an idyllic childhood, often being left to his own devices to get by. When he was only seven, his parents sent him to St. Mary's Industrial School for Boys, which Ruth looked at more as prison than school. He saw his parents only rarely and rapidly became known by the nuns at St. Mary's as a problem child.

Ruth never was one for rules and was not a good fit for the strictly ordered life offered by St. Mary's school. However, he did learn his lifelong love of the game of baseball while at the school. Jack Dunn, manager of the Baltimore Orioles (then a minor league farm team for the Boston Red Sox) was amazed by the then nineteen year old Ruth's talent and immediately signed him on. He was given the nickname of "Jack's newest babe" by teammates - a name that stuck.

It was not long before Ruth's contract was purchased by the Boston Red Sox, where he would spend the next six years both as a catcher and in the outfield. Ruth became immensely popular with fans for his flair on and off the diamond. With the Red Sox, Ruth played his first World Series in 1916. Ruth pitched a still intact record of 14 innings. In fact, Ruth achieved a record setting 29 2/3 innings with no hits as a pitcher in World Series games alone! This record would last for 43 years. In 1919, an ill-advised trade saw Babe Ruth traded to the New York Yankees (ill-advised for the Red Sox anyway, a triumph for the Yankees). This began the "Curse of the Bambino"; the Red Sox would not win another World Series until 2004!

With Ruth on the team, the Yankees would win 4 World Series and 7 American League Pennants. Ruth hit an amazing 54 home runs in 1920 alone. Babe Ruth proved to be just as popular with the fans in New York as he had been in Boston and became a celebrity. The Yankees stadium, built in 1923 soon came to be known as "The House That Ruth Built". Fittingly enough, Ruth hit three home runs on opening day and later that year, the World Series title. Ruth would separate from his wife of 11 years, Helen Woodford in 1925, with whom he had adopted a daughter, Dorothy. It was not until Helen dies in 1929 that he would marry his companion, the model Claire Hodgson. His first at bat that year, he hit a home run out of the park, which he dedicated to Hodgson.

Ruth's 60 home runs in 1927 are another long standing record the player set - it would stand until Roger Maris' 61 home runs in 1961. Many fans debate the vailidity of Maris' record, being that it took Maris 182 games against Ruth's 154. However, no one will debate Ruth's .690 batting average, which has no equal to date. It wasn't for nothing, after all that he is remembered as The Sultan Of Swat.

Babe's famous moment in baseball came in Game 3 of the 1932 World Series where the Yankees played the Chicago Cubs. In the 5th inning, after he already had one home run, Babe came to bat and was at a count of two balls and two strikes. Before the next pitch came his way, Babe pointed to the center of the field bleachers and slammed that puppy right where he pointed and some believe it is the longest home run ever hit out of Wrigley Field.

Ruth left the Yankees in 1935 - he had wanted to be manager of the team and he decided to leave rather than stay in another capacity. He instead signed on with the Boston Braves as first base coach and player, with the promise of the manager's chair in the following year. Seeing that the Braves were unlikely to keep this promise, Ruth went out in style. In one of his final games, Ruth hit three home runs against the Pittsburgh Pirates for a career total of 714 home runs. The Babe's 2,211 RBIs, 2.28 career ERA as a left-handed pitcher and his 8,399 at-bats along with all of his many achievements have made him a player who will always be remembered as long as there is a game called baseball. - 16887

Snorkel the Big Island

By Ted Felber

If you're taking a vacation to Hawaii, there are a lot of things to do and see; but there's nothing quite like snorkeling. This is one of the least expensive activities you could do in Hawaii, but is also one of the most fun. You can snorkel almost anywhere in Hawaii, but the Big Island is the best place of all with its large number of public beaches and crystal clear waters.

Snorkeling takes minimal equipment which can be rented as cheaply as $20 for a half day trip; all you'll need is some fins, a mask and of course a snorkel. If you wear glasses, there are prescription goggles available so you can see underwater just as you would with your glasses. It's easy to find snorkeling gear for rent - most of Hawaii's public beaches have water activity huts which will allow you to rent the necessary equipment.

Almost anyone can snorkel, young or old. You don't even have to be in top condition to go snorkeling, making it accessible to those of us who aren't in great shape. All you need to be able to do is swim. Kids can go along with parents, making snorkeling fun for the whole family. However, there are a few things you should pay attention to if you want to be sure of having a good time. Remember to wear sunscreen at all times, since your whole body won't be underwater. Sunscreen should be applied once every two hours or so to prevent damage from UV radiation.

Don't swim alone, or swim after you've been drinking, and never go too far out. It's easy to forget that you have to come back in, too. Never try to touch the animals, including the coral. It can harm them, and it's againt the law. You'll be fined if you're caught. Standing on coral as though it were a rock is a particularly bad idea that will kill the coral. Remember, these animals and plants are very delicate, and in some cases, their populatations are threatened.

Snorkeling gives you a chance to feast your eyes on a variety of aquatic life which is sure to amaze and delight the entire family. You can watch sea turtles feeding in areas which have a lot of coral, marvel at brightly colored tropical fish and maybe even see some manta rays along sandy bottoms! The waters of the Big Island hold endless wonders for nature lovers, including anemones and even beautiful aquatic plants.

If you're going to the Big Island of Hawaii and you're interested in an inexpensive, fun sport, think about taking up snorkeling. Everyone can do it, and it's easy to get started. All you need is snorkeling gear and a safe beach, and you can take a look under the waves. Wildlife lovers, families on trips, and just about everyone else should think about a great snorkeling trip for their vacation. You'll be surprised by how much fun snorkeling on the Big Island can be. - 16887

In an attempt to offer some insight into the many awesome biking trails this country has to offer, I've narrowed down my 5 favorites in the Central areas of the USA. While there are so many to choose from, I'm hoping my humble opinions below will help you get the most out of your ride.

Waldo Canyon, CO. With literal breathtaking views , especially from the top, this trail doesn't disappoint. At the apex of the ride you will be above the tree line, which is especially unique. There are few rides in this country where you get the feeling that you could touch Heaven itself. The downward ride is memorable and fun as well.

Colorado, Palmer Park. Colorado Springs is one of my favorite towns so I may be a little bit biased here. Palmer Park has something for everyone with trails for beginners and rides that experts will not find disappointing. The best part is that all the maps of Palmer Park are incomplete. You can easily find yourself lost if only for a few minutes. There aren't many places left in the continental US where you can say they have haven't been mapped completely. Take advantage of this one before Google Maps gets around to it.

Cache Creek to Game Creek Loop, Jackson, WY. Located immediately southeast of the town of Jackson, this trail will seem a little common in the beginning. However, you will not be disappointed after the first 2 miles. Rolling hills, thicket, wildlife and seemingly every kind of flowering plant you can think of line the wide track. This trail works for all fitness levels and is truly beautiful. For a more challenging ride, do the loop backwards.

Utah, Moab. The MOAB Brand Trails are 4 trails, each named for the different letters in MOAB. The M trail is the easiest and works it way up to B, which is the most difficult. You'll find the M trail a little rocky, but mostly just fun. The B trail will through expert level obstacles at you like slick rock and tight turns. These trails are enough to keep you busy for a couple of days and can be fun for the whole family. It's a beautiful place, designed for biking fun.

Austin, Texas. The Barton Creek Greenbelt is my favorite place in the great state of Texas. Not only is Austin one of the coolest, quirkiest cities you will ever have the pleasure of visiting with the right mindset this trail is a ton of fun. It is inconsistent in places and you may have to walk in some places but if you are looking for nature in the middle of an urban setting, Barton Creek is a lot of fun. If you can go during the Austin City Limits Music Festival and bike a couple of days you will have lived my dream vacation, I hope you enjoy it.

Above are five excellent places to begin your exploration of Central US bike trails. Admittedly these trails kind of hug the edges of the Central US. I do like to have some elevation change in my bike trails and the bread basket doesn't really provide you with that. These trails will keep you busy though, and happy with your bike riding if you dare to try to take them on. - 16887

Decoupage : An Introduction

By Hale Band

It is believed to have originated from the Nomadic tribe of East Siberia where the people used paper cut-outs to decorate the tombs of their deceased. From Siberia, the craft spread into China in the 12th century where lanterns, windows, boxes and other objects are decorated by cut out pieces of paper. By 18th century, this art form had spread throughout Europe, where it became no longer an artisan's job alone but ladies' hobby as well.

Decoupage is really simple to create. You can decoupage pictures into any household item you already have, furniture, photo albums, shelving, frames, boxes, vases, and even mirrors. Choose an object you want to decoupage pictures on. Make sure it is free of dirt and debris. You can choose to varnish or paint it as well.

Select and cut out the pictures you like. Craft stores sell paper specially designed for decoupage, or maybe you can find appealing art in storybooks, gift-wrapping paper, wallpaper, packages, greeting cards, fabric, etc. You can also print out graphics and poems from your computer. Magazines are a great source of printed art, however if the paper is too thin, the articles or advertisements on the other side of the page may show once you dampen it with varnish or glue. You can use photos, but use high-quality ones to achieve better results. You can use hundreds of possible medium.

Other materials needed are: white glue, popsicle stick, cotton swab and damp rag. The white glue serves as your decoupage medium. You can dilute this with water to spread it more easily. The popsicle stick is used to smoothen out the wrinkles on your paper cut-outs, the cotton swab is used as a paintbrush and the rag is to wipe excess glue.

Coat the back of your picture completely with glue. Apply a thin layer on the spot in your object where you will place your picture.

Gently stick it on the object and smoothen out the wrinkles using your finger. Wipe the excess glue. You can use the popsicle stick for this too. Do this until you have glued on all your pictures, overlapping them to your tastes. Let the glue dry.

Apply three to four coatings of diluted glue (made up of water and glue) to the finished surface once it was completely dry.

Apply several more coating of glue or decoupage medium or use another sealer (polyurethane, acrylic spray, etc.) or even clear varnish until you get the desired results. Keep applying coats until the picture edges are smoothed out. - 16887

7 Fat Loss Tips to Get You on the Right Track

By Thong M. Dao

Do you want to lose fat? Have you tried different diets and failed consistently? If you answered yes to these questions, you are in good company. There are a lot of people who have been trying fat loss diets over the years and have failed. The reason they have not succeeded is that they used gimmicks and lose-weight-fast diets that do more damage than good. Here are some sensible things to keep in mind when you try to lose weight.

1. Why are you overweight? Do you have a problem with emotional eating? If that's the case you need to teach yourself to turn to solutions other than food when you have an emotional difficulty. If you are just not eating right, learn how to eat well and nutritiously. Check with your doctor if you suspect a hormonal imbalance. When you find out what is causing you to gain weight, you can go ahead and find a solution that will encourage fat loss.

2. Learn to be in control. You need to be the one to decide what you will eat. Don't eat food just because it is there. Learn to choose wisely when you eat out, and learn to resist pressure by family and friends to eat "just one" food item. Come up with a long-term plan that will help you be healthy physically and mentally, and don't fall for fad diets that come and go and don't work long term.

3. Instead of eating three big meals, eat small frequent meals. If you eat frequently throughout the day, your metabolism works continuously and burns calories. If you eat big meals your metabolism goes up and down and it is actually harder to lose weight that way. Pay attention to what you eat during these meals and stay away from processed snacks that are high in fat and sugar.

4. Take your time. Eating more slowly and allowing yourself to savor the food does two things. It allows your body to tell you more readily when you're full, and it helps you satisfy your appetite. After all, if you're eating quickly, the taste of the food may not register at all.

5. Don't make major changes in your lifestyle. It is much easier to follow a fat loss diet when you don't need to make huge changes in your eating habits. Choose a plan that will allow you to make small changes, allowing time for yourself to get used to each change. You should not feel that you need to starve or eat food that you are not familiar with.

6. Avoid processed foods. Whole grains, veggies, and fruits are an important part of a healthy diet, as is lean protein. If you usually eat a lot of refined carbohydrates and fatty animal protein, you may have trouble maintaining your weight. You may also be at risk for diabetes, heart disease, and many other ailments. A more rounded diet featuring more vegetable sources, less refined carbohydrates, and more protein is an important key to many people's fat loss plans.

7. Remember to hydrate. Water, unsweetened teas, and other relatively calorie free beverages that provide good hydration (diet beverages often have caffeine, which can reduce their hydrating ability) are a must. You'll feel fuller, your body will be able to keep itself cleansed, and the flavor of teas and similar drinks keeps you from having cravings. - 16887

He is best known for his powerful groundstroke, as well as for being a skilled volleyer and baseliner. Federer uses a hybrid grip which takes elements from the semi-western and eastern strokes.
