Adventure Trip-Breckenridge Style

The beautiful sight of the Ten Mile Range is one of many reasons to plan a trip to Breckenridge. Remember the theme song from the Rocky movie, "The Eye of the Tiger"?

When Rocky fought his opponent he had the focus of 'the eye of the tiger'. When that song was written they couldn't have had any idea the significance it would take on when a new Tiger took the world stage and changed sports forever.

I don't care if you are a golf fan or a sports fan or if you think there is too much hype over this one particular athlete-yes golfers are athletes.

Tiger Woods is a force to be reckoned with. I could write a book about not only his accomplishments in the sports world, but also his accomplishments as a human being, but many books have already been written. In fact I wrote about Tiger in my book, "Breakthrough to Success."

Look at what Tiger does in terms of how you live your life. Could you stand up to the level of excellence that Tiger requires of himself? If you raised your expectations, do you think you would be performing head and shoulders above your competition?

I've always been a huge fan of his because not only is he a consummate professional, he has such intense focus that you can see it on his face when you watch him on TV. I have also had the pleasure of standing just a few feet from him on more than one occasion and watching that focus in person.

Over and over again I heard the announcers at the tournament talking about how nobody would believe this if it was a movie. It would just be too much of a fantasy and the whoever wrote a screenplay that played out like this would be laughed out of a movie mogul's office. I don't know if I've ever seen a movie or a sporting event with this many interesting characters and twists and turns.

Tiger is larger than life and his life is richer, more nuanced, and more interesting than any movie script. And this weekend he was Rocky, but he wasn't fighting an opponent, he was doing what his dad had taught him. He was playing full out because that's the only way to do it.

There were so many amazing shots from this one tournament. You can probably find them all on Youtube. But it's not about the shots. It's about the measure of the man. During the tournament some of his fellow golfers, who should feel really ashamed of themselves right now, wondered out loud through their pettiness and jealousy how hurt Tiger really was.

Tiger on the other hand downplayed his injury to not take the focus off the Open while he played through incredible pain that would have made almost any other player call it quits, especially when he was so far back that it didn't look like he had any chance at all of winning.

And yet, Tiger not only didn't quit, he forced a playoff and played another 19 holes on Monday. And then he made the impossible inevitable by winning...again!

Watching him play in the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines for 4 days instead of the usual 3 was a treat and at the same time painful. My heart ached every time I saw him wince when he hit the ball or when his caddy pulled him up by the arm when he couldn't get up by himself or when the pain of taking another stroke had him almost doubled over in pain.

And I wondered how he could keep going, where did he find the inner strength to focus enough to pull it out day after day?

Ironically during the tournament there was a commercial running with audio of his dad talking about how Tiger would never meet anyone else as mentally tough as him in his entire life.

He certainly proved his dad right that weekend. I'm sorry I won't be seeing him play the rest of the summer, but I know he'll be back next year better than ever because striving for excellence is just his natural way of being.

There are a wide variety of Omaha Hi/Lo hands so it can be hard to figure out which hands should be played and which should be folded. It may surprise some to know that there are more hands that should be folded than played.

Whether you are playing Texas Holdem or Omaha Hi/Lo you should only be in to see the flop about 20% of the time. If you are active more than that then you are likely playing your game too loose. Before you begin a game of Omaha Hi/Lo you should make sure you have a full understanding of which hands you need to fold.

Many hands you will get will be obviously bad hands, these are the easy ones to let go. Most people have the sense to put down a hand that gives them a very slim chance at winning. Those who dont fold these hands will find out fast that they are using a bad strategy. Either that or they will wonder why they keep losing.

If you are interested increasing your odds of winning then you should know which hands need to be let go. One common hand that causes players confusion is the Omaha Hi/Lo 4567, which many players feel has good possibilities.

A lot of players think this is a good hand because there are a lot of possibilities to catch a straight. The fact of the matter is that this is not true. There is not a very good chance of catching a straight and most of the time you will have very little chance of having a low hand.

Big Pair Lookout

Another type of hand that a lot of people automatically like are the big pair hand regardless of what they come with. A hand like KK28 off suit is not a winning hand. You are going to almost always lose with this hand unless you hit a king and get another pair along with it and manage to boat up.

Even with AA, you have to have cards to go along with the AA. Double suited hands with a high pair are a decent place to commence, especially if the other cards along with the pairs are low. It is a big misconception to think that just because you have a high pocket pair in Omaha that you are good to go.

Generally you want cards that work together. Cards that are suited and work together to make good hands are going to give you a lot higher chance to win. These are the hands that will take you where you want to go. You must give yourself a chance to win the low hand and the high hand. At the same time, you do not want to concentrate too hard on only the low hand. That is just going to get you in trouble.

Take the time to learn the various hands and their odds, it will pay off big time in the long run. Instead of taking chances with your cards, make the small investment in getting to know what hands are truly better, and which ones only look good but dont often win. Safely Fishing at Night

The same thing happens every year. By mid-summer people are complaining about the heat and don't want to fish. Most people are ready to stop this time of year before noon. That's why I am here, to share a secret with you about fishing in South Texas at night. At night, it is of course cooler outside, but also the water cools down and those big speckled trout start to really move and feed. There is nothing like catching one of these big fish at night, when you can't even see them explode on your lure. Here I will show you how to fish, where to go, and when to do it.

Rule #1 - Do NOT go fishing at night alone! There are too many bad things that can happen at night that are out of your control. Follow these tips to stay safe:

* Your fishing partner should be aware of the aware of the area you are fishing in and your surrounds.

* Always wear your life jacket while motoring the boat.

* Leave a float plan (where you are going) with a buddy.

* Plan out your trip, including your first several fishing spots.

HOW: Once you are settled in at the first point, lighting is your next thing to focus on. Your boat should have an anchor light, which you need to turn on now. This alerts other boaters in the area, and acts as a guide for you in the dark. You will also want to pick up some LED headlamps from your local sporting goods store (don't forget batteries!) to give you hands free light while wade fishing.

In addition to the headlamps, get some glow sticks as well. These are the type that activate and light up when you bend/crack/shake them. What you do is tie the glow stick to some string and hang it like a necklace, draping down over your back. This will also help to prevent boaters from coming too close, and keep your fishing partner from hitting you with a lure. Worst case scenario, it can also be a good emergency backup light to get to the boat. While wading, don't get too far apart.

WHEN: I prefer to fish in the time before, during and after a full moon because of the extra light it provides. If you are using a dark topwater lure it will stand out that much better to those predator fish. The key is to use what I call the "Donk's Tangler". What you do is tie about a foot of line to the front ring on a top water lure, and then attach a dark-colored soft plastic lure on the back end with a very light fishing hook.

It's a bit unusual, but it works surprisingly well. The action you need to work the rig is the same as any other topwater lure, but now you have the added benefit of fish striking the extra plastic lure. For me, braided line works the best in this situation because you can feel every bump and nibble on that second lure.

Major feeding times, according to Solunar tables, are a great time to fish. I use a 5 hour time-frame around what the tables call these prime times. It's no guarantee but has worked for me in the past.

WHERE: White Bluff, Black Bluff, East Kleberg Point, Alazan bay and the Tide Gauge Bar have produced numerous, night time wall hangers. This method has been very effective for me, as I am sure it will be for you. Remember keep just what you will eat! Until next time, SEE YOU ON THE WATER! - 16887

The best starting exercise is the lower body stretch. Keeping your feet shoulder-width apart and your hands behind your back, bend over as if you are trying to touch your toes. Hold for thirty seconds and repeat the movement ten times.

Floor Stretch is another very effective exercise. While sitting on the floor, keep your legs stretched apart and bend your upper torso by pulling yourself toward one thigh. Hold the stretch for thirty seconds and then repeat it on the other side.

Knee raise is a very good exercise for weight loss. To do this exercise, raise one knee to just above the waistline. Keep bouncing while raising your knee. Repeat the exercise on each side ten times and then resume the steady contact bounce.
