The Advantages of Working Out At Home

By Buster Thomas

Working out at home can be a dangerous proposition, since you may inadvertently injure yourself, because you don't have an expert coach to watch your back. If you follow these rules, though, you can enjoy your workout at home without having hurting yourself.

First, make sure that you warm up properly before each exercise session. Engage in low impact aerobics or cardio like walking or cycling to get your body ready for more intense exercise.

If you are a beginner or have not worked out for a long time, start out with shorter exercise sessions. You can injure yourself more easily if you over overexert your body. Why? Your muscles are not prepared for the exertion. Starting off slowly and building up can also help reduce soreness.

Next, you can gradually increase the length and intensity of your home workouts. Be careful to know your bodys limits, and never do more than you can handle.

Take care to ensure that your exercise equipment is in good condition, and only use equipment that you know how to use safely and properly. Using equipment improperly, or using equipment that is damaged or worn, will not get you the results you are looking for, and may even cause physical injury.

Free weights should generally only be used when you have a partner there who can spot you. Particularly for exercises such as bench presses and squats, injury can occur easily, so be sure you have someone there who can help you.

Stop quickly if you begin to feel any pain. Do not workout again until it goes away. If it is persistent, see a doctor. Resuming exercise too quickly can aggravate minor injuries.

Wear comfortable athletic shoes that fit correctly whenever you choose a workout involving walking or running. Good shoes will help prevent pains in your feet and legs. They provide adequate support and help prevent needless injuries. - 16887
