Deep Red: There's style to burn in pointless terror thriller with Hemmings on the trail of a sadistic psycho murderer. Showy, weird scenes set to beating rock soundtrack. Cast includes David Hemmings, Daria Nicolodi, Gabriele Lavia, Macha Meril, and Glauco Mauri. (98 minutes, 1975)

The Vows: Astronomically pleasing story of an ambitious youthful Dubliner who takes on the task of constructing and managing a band made up of other Dubliners who harmonize '60s-type music! Disarmingly involving from the word go, with charismatic cast of unknowns, and the film is filled with irresistible music. This film is truly a genuine treat. Cast includes Robert Arkins, Michael Aherne, Angeline Ball, Maria Doyle, Dave Finnegan, Bronagh Gallagher, Felim Gormley, Glen Hansard, Dick Massey, Johnny Murphy, Kenneth McCluskey, Andrew Hefty, and Colm Meaney. (117 minutes, 1991)

Defiance: Abrasive little film in reference to rootless blue-collar hermit Vincent, who tries to match up his dying kid's bone marrow on his own. He then tames a ferocious N.Y.C. road gang. Cast includes Jan-Michael Vincent, Craft Camey, Theresa Saldana, and Danny Aiello. (102 minutes, 1980)

Hail Mary: Uninteresting, overblown updating of the tale of Christ's birth, with Mary a student basketball competitor! Even though still a virgin, she finds herself pregnant. This film kindled much dissension and was even condemned by the Pope. Cast includes Myriem Roussel, Thierry Rode, Philippe Lacoste, Manon Anderson, and Juliette Binoche. (107minutes, 1985)

The Only Game in Town: Romance of chorus gal and a gambler takes place in Las Vegas, however was shot in Paris and it definitely hurts the film. There is little action and the inside scenes slow pace of this delightful adaptation of Frank D. Gilroy's play. Beatty is phenomenal. Cast includes Elizabeth Taylor, Warren Beatty, Charles Braswell, Hank Henry, and Olga Valery. (113 minutes, 1970)

Lost Boundaries: This is a penetrating, well-meaning if dull-moving account of a committed, light skinned Negro physician (Ferrer, in his debut) who (with his family) passes for white in a tiny New Hampshire town. Cast includes Beatrice Pearson, Mel Ferrer, Richard Hylton, Susan Douglas, Canada Lee, Rev. Robert Dunn, and Carleton Carpenter. (99 minutes, 1949)

Alexander's Ragtime Band: Cheesy however amusing musical chronicling the virtuoso and romantic ups and downs of hot-headed aristocrat bandleader Power, fine gentleman and pianist composer Ameche, and hard but vulnerable singer Faye (in one of her best acting jobs). Cast includes Tyrone Power, Alice Faye, Don Ameche, Ethel Merman, Jack Haley, Jean Hersholt, Helen Westley, Jand ohn Carradine. (105 minutes, 1938)
