Advice When You're Choosing Jon Boats

By Lena Hellsten

Jon boats are the basic open rough boats that are suitable for sport fishermen or to use as a transport boat in shallow waters. These types of boats are usually flat-bottomed with a square stern and this why they perform so well in shallow and calm waters.

These boats were originally made out of wood and have been around on the waters for a long time. They are normally using an outboard motor to get around. Nowadays, the wooden Jon boat is just one of many kinds. You can find Jon boats in other materials that are great since they require less maintenance than wood.

Apart from wood, polyethylene, fiberglass and aluminum are the most common materials for Jon boats. They are all good choices and which kind you choose depends on where youre going to use your boat and what youre going to use it for.

Aluminum is a great material if youre going to use your boat in lakes and rivers and also if you can expect to get a few beats from rocks. You dont want to have an aluminum boat if youre mainly going to be on salty waters since it can cause damage and leakage to the boat early on.

Polyethylene is a better option if youre going to use your boat in salty water since it withstands it very well. This material is still strong and gives you a boat that is quite light too. It can withstand a few beats to even though it shouldnt be dragged over rough surfaces.

Fiberglass is also suitable for boats that are going to be used in salty waters. If youre looking for a boat that is quieter this is your best option even though it is a little bit weaker than polyethylene.

If you know what youre going to use your Jon boat for and you know the area well where its supposed to be in the water you can feel secure to choose a boat from a material that is perfect for your specific situation.

A Jon boat is one of the better options for boats if youre looking for a boat that is safe and easy to use and that is great for fishing and short transports. Get your boat from someone professional and with expert knowledge and you can know that the boat youre getting will be the right one for you. - 16887
