Seat Selection: Poker Strategies

By Mike Tomlin

Poker is a game of many strategies. In order to beat up your opponents, you need to grab every opportunity that presents a bigger advantage. One game plan you can use is to opt for the best seat on a table. This kind of selection does not refer to choosing the most beautiful seat or getting the nicest view, this strategy calls for a better position amidst the other players.

Strategy is important in playing poker. You should take advantage of any opportunity that presents an edge over your opponents and that includes choosing the right seat.

Almost all people suggest to sit on the left side of aggressive players and on the right side of good players. This is quiet a good plan knowing that the player to your right is clearly assertive.

This will permit you to cut off the player when they raise or re-raise the pot to force out the players next to you.

On the other hand, you can also place this player on your left if the situation is quiet passive ( a lot of passive players). The reason behind this idea is to call into pots or to check when the first three cards came out having the aggressive player set the bet for you.

If a number of players called before going back to you, you can now increase your bet given that you have a good hand. This strategy is good if the table you're in place big bets in which you can raise enough money to get the pot with no opponents challenging you or playing with only you and one player remaining with a lot of other players money on the pot.

This idea can also be use in placing better players. You can place the better player on your right to have an idea on their game plan or you can place the better player behind you to affect the decision that they are going to make.

There are a lot of differentiating strategies when it comes to seat selection. You can decide to seat on the left side of better players or on their right side. You can also place yourself on an assertive players right or left depending on the way you play. The good decision will be is to try it all out so that you can make some changes in your strategies on every game that you play. - 16887
