How Much Do You Know About Basketball Jerseys?

By John Anderson

Playing basketball is never complete without gearing up with the proper basketball accessories. Aside from the ball, the basketball court and the rim, one must also have the appropriate outfit to play the game comfortably. Of course, you cant play the game wearing a gown or a suit! You would need to wear something loose and comfortable, that you wont need to worry about even if you jump and run around the court.

In professional basketball the basic gears that a player is required to wear are basketball shoes, loose short pants, and loose jerseys. These are just some of the basics. More accessories are being used right now in the NBA by some players; and there are even those that are not really that necessary. The basketball jersey, as one of the basic gears, is a very important accessory and is also one of the most marketable goods for basketball product companies.

In street basketball anybody can wear anything he wishes to wear since there are not too many rules. And most street ballers just wear sleeveless shirts and short pants, which are the most commonly used attire in street ball and even in game practices. There are also those who feel comfortable enough in wearing shirts with sleeves and even jogging pants. But of course, it wont be as comfortable as wearing the right stuff.

In amateur and collegiate basketball, players are required to wear the appropriate attire " jersey and shorts. However, there are also those who wear inner shirts under their jerseys. This is quite popular in the collegiate basketball but rather rare in the pro league. This is because in pro basketball, a player cannot use an inner shirt anytime he wishes to. He would have to ask for permission from the opposing team to use an inner shirt under the jersey for some reasons. This rule is currently being followed by the NBA and some other basketball leagues in the world.

This is for the purpose of transparency and to clearly see that a player is not wearing anything inside his jersey that could harm other players. In the international scene, the rule regarding having an undershirt under the jersey is not that strict. This is evident in most European and Asian basketball tournaments and leagues, as seeing a player wearing an inner shirt aside from the jersey is not a rare sight.

However it may go and wherever you may play the game, the most important thing to remember is to ensure that you are comfortable with your attire for your safety and for the other players as well. And gearing up with the appropriate basketball stuff is just the safest thing one can do. - 16887
