The Joy of Theme Parks

By Arnie Proctor

Local theme parks find themselves teeming with thrill seeking families, the scent of suntan lotion, and excited children ever summer. From the very young to the very old alike, people of all ages enjoy visiting theme parks. There are not many places, after all, where one can consume a funnel cake, ride a water log, and take a free fall from voer 100 feet all in the same day.

But what attracts so many people to visit theme parks? One of the best benefits to a theme park vacation is the quantity of entertainment for one easily budgeted price. People are able to do a lot in only one day and even if the meals and trinkets from the souvenirs stands might be a little expensive the overall value of the experience balances out to much less then spending a few nights in a hotel or restore and works out as much cheaper vacation, with the same amount of fun.

The thrill and enjoyment of a theme park is also very unique and alluring. People are naturally drawn to the adventure of thrill seeking rides and attractions. It's the same reason we watch scary movies and go to the effort of making haunted houses come Halloween. Such adrenaline-ridden activity gets the blood flowing and provides us with a sense of adventure that we all long to experience.

What could be more exciting then a high speed roller coaster with new rides almost every year daring us to brave new heights, new turns and more velocity? The high octane thrill of a tension laden ride as it gradually makes it's way to the top of a death defying height is unmatched by any other vacation spot.

Even though some of the scariest and most popular rides only last for a few minutes they last a lifetime in the memories of adults and children alike. They cerate moments of excitement and daring for us all to remember and are made only sweeter by the anticipation of having to wait in line to get on.

Some theme parks also complete our need for fantasy. Disneyworld is laden with cartoon characters brought to life. MGM Studios lets their ticket holders get glimpses of their favorite movie sets. Epcot Center explores the world of the future. There is even a theme park dedicated to the Hershey chocolate bar.

With that in mind, there are some amusement parks that provide more than just rides. Although it has many rides and attractions itself, Dollywood in East Tennessee is also known for its folk art and traditional Appalachian crafts. They even have a blacksmith on site. Throughout the summer, you can find headliners performing country music concerts.

Another fun thing about theme parks is that they are one of the last places where an adult can be a child again. Screaming at the top of your lungs is not only permitted but encouraged, it's okay to walk around all day with wet clothing, and sugary fried cakes can be considered lunch. You can also be photographed with large furry animals.

At the end of the day, the best thing about theme parks is that they are a good place to spend quality time with your family and friends. In today's world, we are a very busy society and most of the time we have little time for interacting with our loved ones the way that we would like to. Yet, a day at an amusement park provides laughter, bonding, and silliness. It is well worth the price of admission. - 16887
