A half an inch allowance in front of the shoes is fine.

Shoes should feel light when you picked them up. The heavier the shoes, the faster and more tired you would get . Feel the heel of the shoe. It should be stiff to support your ankles .

Remember that your shoes don't last forever so look at the soles of your shoes and replace when you have to. Basically, the running shoes should be replaced every 400-500 miles or every 6 months, depending on your frequency of use and the running surface. - 16887
