No Surprise McNabb's Out Hurt for the Philadelphia Eagles

By Ted Rogal

Donovan McNabb is still the franchise player for the Philadelphia Eagles. He has been a member of the Eagles franchise for 10 years now and still the Super Bowl win has eluded him - not all his fault. Many years McNabb would have to create all by himself and throw to average receivers at best.

The team's week one trouncing of the Carolina Panthers showcased this, as McNabb lit up the field and beat the Panthers by a score of 38-10.

The Panthers nearly made the Super Bowl last season, and had one of the strongest finishes in the league. This was by all means an impressive victory, and the offense and defense alike both played their parts.

Unfortunately, McNabb suffered an injury during the course of the game. Such has been the case on many occasions in recent years, as McNabb is often criticized for being prone to injury. While most injuries usually involve his knees, this time McNabb's ribs took their toll, as he cracked a rib during the game against the Panthers.

The Eagles have a good running game with Brain Westbrook and LeSean McCoy with average receivers. The Eagles never had a really number one receiver since Terrell Owens, that didn't end well as we all know.

The Eagles defense is doing fairly well holding their opponents to a limited amount of yards. The Eagles were torched against the New Orleans Saints for 48 points, thankfully the Eagles won't play the Saints offense every week.

The Eagles are contenders to win the NFC East and possibly the NFC conference. Many believe Michael Vick will not be a major factor in the success in the Eagles - who will be is McNabb and how healthy he can stay during the course of the season.

The team should be lucky to have such an opponent in week 3, for a game they couldn't win would present serious challenges down the road. Will we see more of Michael Vick or will they continue with Kolb? I'd imagine Kolb continues as Vick's probably still a bit rusty. - 16887
