Dance Instruction and Taking Young Dance Students Seriously

By Sarah Wilkiamson

It's very important to locate a dance school that will endeavour to take your child as seriously as possible. A lot of schools don't do this. They see their students as dollars only. As a consequence, the lessons may not always be appropriate for the age group or the pupils just might not learn as much as they would at other schools. Also, young people tend to get so bored and frustrated that they give up dance.

Once a young person is discouraged in such a way it can completely kill off their confidence and will to succeed. That's why it is very important to ensure that your child's school is a good one and that their dance lessons are enjoyable and fulfilling right from the beginning.

One of the problems with less professional schools and instructors is the 'one size fits all' approach to training. Many teachers are expecting pupils to perform out of their depth, insisting younger children take lessons more suited to an older student.

Good lesson structure is an important part of creating lessons that fit a student's needs, rather than try and fit a student into the course that doesn't suit them. This is important because it's so easy for young people to get frustrated or overwhelmed and give up. It takes more effort on the schools part, but this is the difference between quality dance schools and the rest, it's the sign of a good school.

So how will this help your child?

It makes learning easy: proper structuring will ensure that the learning process takes into account the child's age and level of advancement.

The children will enjoy learning: With the right mix of fun and discipline, pupils find it easy to relax and learn. New skills can sometimes be intimidating and so children need an environment that is conducive to learning.

Make it simple to remember: A good structured class is far easier to remember than one that has been put together poorly. When things are easy to remember it means that the next level of skill has a good base to build on.

Your child will learn faster: When they retain lessons and learn new skills in a relaxed fashion these children will be able to learn faster and enjoy the curriculum.

So when you look for appropriate dance schools for your child remember to keep your child's needs in mind. In this way you will be able to ask the right questions and find out if the dance school that you want to enroll them in really takes young pupils seriously. Once you find one that fits your child's needs you can be sure that you will be giving them a lifelong gift that they will never forget. When you start dance lessons at a young age it will result in a lasting appreciation of the arts. You will also instill in them a genuine love of the wonderful world of dance. - 16887
