The Garmin Forerunner 305 - A Consistent Winner

By Christopher Loch

Despite being released over two years ago, the Garmin Forerunner 305 remains a consistent best seller on Amazon.com and has received the highest ranking of any wrist mounted GPS available on the site.

Wrist mounted GPS units work similar to similar to the kind you use in your car except instead of telling you where to go, wrist mounted GPS units tell you where you've been and how much further you have to go. Adding location based data to the usual training metrics is able to give your workout a whole new added dimension (literally!).

This kind of training has only been made possible by recent advances in GPS technology. The first wrist mounted GPS units to hit the market looked like something out of Battlestar Gallactica that very few athletes would be caught dead wearing. It was the best and brightest at Garmin who developed the first wrist mounted GPS unit that athletes actually considered using; the Garmin Forerunner 305. They've since released a newer version (the 405) but it hasn't caught on as well as the 305.

A google search for the Garmin Forerunner 305 brings you to Amazon.com where 667 users have ranked the Garmin Forerunner 305 a 4.5 (out of 5) whereas the 405 is ranked only a 3.5 (out of 5). When you also add the fact that the Garmin Forerunner 305 is almost $200 cheaper than the 405 you start to see why Amazon has a hard time keeping the Garmin Forerunner 305 in stock consistently. Here are some actual quotes from Amazon users reviewing the Garmin Forerunner 305:

"Great Tool"

"Awesome!"

"My best buy on sports equipment so far!"

Here's why outdoor athletes prefer the Garmin Forerunner 305:

1. large easy to read screen is customizable

2. it grabs satellites quickly

3. large, easy to use buttons

Although people have been running outdoors for millennia without this thing, the Garmin Forerunner 305 has helped me take my training to the next level and made it fun again. - 16887
